I remember...
in 1962 our church (then named Apostolic Faith Tabernacle) had the dedication services for the new building.
It was a big deal for us...three days (Thurs., Fri., Sat.) of special guests and choirs, but the highlight for this 11 year old was that Bro. and Sis Urshan were here all weekend!!
What a thrill to have them here, not just for one service, but the entire weekend. They brought Nathaniel Paul and Sharon with them, as well as Bro. Hugh Rose.
I shall never forget that he stood at his seat on the platform and in the middle of service sang
The Holy City. That stands out to me because, first, I knew the song from hearing my mom singing and playing it on our upright piano at home. Second, at that time, that just wasn't the type of song you heard sung in Pentecostal churches.
Bro. and Sis. Urshan sang and played and he preached every night...it was wonderful.
The church served meals for I can't tell you how many people...before and after service. My mom and dad were workers in the Kingdom as far back as I can remember, and these services were no different with them working till all hours in the kitchen.
I remember that they put us down to sleep in the back of our station wagon while they worked, and we didn't miss school on Friday.
It was a wonderful time and the memories are rich.
I remember...
Bro. Urshan preaching here in the late 70s and saying that one time Sis. Urshan had been in the hospital...he walked in the room, and she said, "I have been waiting for you to get here so we could have prayer."
He said that they prayed together
every day of their married life.
I remember...
living in Pasadena, Texas in 1973...I wasn't saved, but when I went to church, I attended the church pastored by Bro. Arless Glass.
The Urshans came for some district thing and I went because I always loved to hear her sing.
Sis. Urshan stood at the mic (some young man whose name escapes me played for her), and she sang
The next hand you shake could be the hand of the Savior
The next step you take could be on streets of purest gold
Your next meal could be the Marriage Supper
And the next touch you feel He could be blessing your soul
Precious memories...
