Angry Preachers
It has come to my attention that some preachers tend to get quite angry over the pulpit.
Very often it's associated with a screaming preacher.
I find myself asking, "Why?". Why the anger? Regardless what the message is about, it seems appalling to me.
Is it an effective method of delivery? Should we dismiss it as a righteous indignation of sorts?
What say you?

Re: Angry Preachers
I don't care for that style. In fact I think it reflects poorly on the minister and any organization he may be part of.

Re: Angry Preachers
I never liked the loud shouting style, even before joining the UPC. I remember a few preachers just screaming on TV as a young kid and asking my dad why he was so angry.

Re: Angry Preachers
I call that the "lash out" preachers. Lot of times they have nothing much of substance to say. Nonetheless at times I think Gods emotions do come through a Preacher.

Re: Angry Preachers
Been there, done that way too many times and I don't intend to go back. I've been in services where the preacher got mad because people didn't worship as expected and it ended up with the preacher walking on chairs yelling about how somebody's baby was going to die.
Another time (and another preacher) the men in a prayer meeting were sitting in chairs and praying and all that ended up with chairs being thrown out into the hallway and just barely missing my daughter.
Nope. No more for me.

I like it so I can understand what the preacher is saying....

Re: Angry Preachers
IN DEFENSE OF THE RED-FACED PREACHER
This is a blog post by Myles Young's youth pastor.
http://e-luminations.blogspot.com/20...-preacher.html
Quote:
So, it’s cool when it's a sport – softball, basketball, football, etc. Because he was right and knew the rules concerning field of play better than anyone else, he was justified in yelling and screaming and getting all ‘red in the face’ about a subject he was knowledgable in and passionate about…but God forbid a man or woman, a Pastor, Evangelist, Apostle, Prophet or a Teacher called by God to lead His people, who has dedicated his or her life to the ministry (which is unto the Father on behalf of the people, not unto the people on behalf of the Father), and who knows the Word better than anyone else on the field…
God forbid they ever come out of the dugout, scream and yell and get all ‘red in the face’ after their passion, to ‘call out’ and question the position or direction of people on the opposing extremity who are trying to keep members of the winning team from advancing forward…
It’s ok to get all pumped up and competitive, just so long as it ‘stays on the court,’ right?
Well, let’s remember when it comes to men's souls we are not playing games any longer. It is a matter of eternity.

Re: Angry Preachers
Angry preachers???
It's called IGNERT preachers afflicted with a sense of self importance and desire for control. I've seen a few. They destroy more souls by himself than a dozen other good preachers can save.

Re: Angry Preachers
More than anything it's puzzling to me. Why would it be attractive? Certainly not because it achieves any good results... Or does it? Perhaps the conflict is the goal... Sort of a self-fulfilling prophesy perhaps? The man of God speaking the truth against all odds?
I really don't know...
I have heard the analogy of Jesus getting angry in the temple but, that analogy seems to fall short seeing the minister is not Jesus and the congregants are his fellow brothers in Christ.

We are Jesus' fellow brethren from that theological perspective. Joint heirs.
Then there's the anger vs. righteous indignation. Is anger an evil emotion?
Did you read the blog post I cited? Thoughts?
It certainly achieves results -- though it doesn't mean the "desired" result. Hitler was a very angry and passionate speaker. and he convinced millions to do unspeakably evil things.
