Help Me Plan My California Vacation
I am going on vacation at the end of April, and I will be flying from Nashville into LAX. I am going to fly home in 6 days. Give me some ideas for our trip.
I would really like take in the scenery and the sights. We love the outdoors, the ocean, and the mountains. I will be travelling with my wife and 3 teenagers. Thanks for your help!

The monterey bay is a must see. San Luis Obisbo, Crenshaw district LA(<-just kidding), Sausalito(must see), Baja Cali, San Diego(Coronado), and Fresno(nothing to see except to wonder why anyone ever bothered to settle there)

Drive down PCH (Highway 1) from LA through Malibu, through to Oxnard/Ventura (where I live) to Santa Barbara. From Santa Barbara you might drive up to Ojai by way of Lake Casitas. Or keep going up to Lake Cachuma...do some fishing. Casitas has had state Big Mouth bass records. You might try driving from Ventura to Magic Mountain and spend the day there on the amusement rides...then from there you could check out Universal Studios.....
If you got more time and want some nicer outdoors you can drive a couple hours to the Sierras...some nice lakes and streams up there..
Or you can keep driving up north towards Pismo Beach...Stop at Salvang (Dutch city/shops)...

I have thought about driving up to Santa Barbara. It looks like a beautiful city from the photos I have seen. How much further north would I have to drive to see some really spectacular coastal scenery (such as Big Sur coastline)? Also, how much time does it take to drive from LA to Santa Barbara?
In regards to San Diego, I love this city. I visited it in 2003. I have thought about spending one night there, but if I drive up to Santa Barbara I would not have time to do San Diego. Which of the two has the prettier scenery?
Thanks for your help,

From LA to Santa Barbara is probably about an hour and a half depending on traffic. You can take H1 to the 101...2 hours if traffic is bad. But the beaches at Ventura and Santa Barbara are nice. Check out Hueneme beach too and get some sea food at the little shop there. It's a pretty clean beach usually. No animals allowed

Yosemite National Park! San Francisco, San Diego, Monterey/Carmel are all proven winners!
Also eat a double, double cheesebuger from In-N-Out Burger, if your religion allows, Dodger Stadium along with a foot-long Dodger dog is also a LOT of fun.
