What do you think of the virginity ring?

You've probably heard of the movement and the controversy in Britain. A Christian girl wears a special ring to school that is a symbol of her promise to remain a virgin until her wedding day...the British school system forbid her to wear it while allowing other religions to wear their religious ornaments....

Is this ring thing a good idea?

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

My understanding is the school has a rule against any jewelry. It had nothing to do with it being a religious symbol.

They give exceptions to other religions that wear religious symbols and jewelry like the Sikhs and Muslims

Lawyers for the school denied discrimination and said the purity ring breached its rules on wearing jewelry.

They said allowances were made for Muslim and Sikh pupils only for items integral to their religious beliefs and that, for the same reason, crucifixes were also allowed. But it argued that the purity ring was not an integral part of the Christian faith.

And they were correct in their argument. A purity ring is not an integral part of the Christian faith. I don't see how what they did was wrong, Prax. It seems to me they applied the school rules fairly.

Well first of all Im really asking if the ring is a good idea, not if this decision was right or wrong.

Second, that is is not an integral part of "the Christian faith" is purely subjective. What is The christian faith to you is not the same as to someone else. Same with Islam...is a veil really an integral part of the Islamic faith? Not all muslims would say it is
