Any other poll workers here?

I'll be busy all day tomorrow working the polls. Anyone else here on AFF an official poll worker? Just curious. I'd be interested in comparing how our days went on Wednesday - AFTER a good night's sleep

Re: Any other poll workers here?

I have worked at the polls in the past. When I worked we had to open the polls at 5:30 am and worked until they closed at 8pm. After the polls close, it usually takes about 30 minutes to validate the vote counts and the appointed poll supervisor took the vote count in to the Clerk of Courts office. That meant another 1hour so it is a very long day. I think they get paid 150 dollars for the day the poll supervisor gets paid 50 dollars more.

We WISH we got paid that here. In our county, the poll workers make $90 for the day and the Presiding Judge makes $120. Not near enough. Our day is supposed to start at 5:30 a.m. and go until the polls close at 7:30 pm. Then we have to run the strips for the ballots, do the count stuff, etc. and the presiding judge takes everything back to the Board of Elections office. I just got back at about 10:00 p.m.

I say we are SUPPOSED to start at 5:30. Because the state decided in the last two days that presiding judges can't babysit the machines in their garages overnight anymore. The machines had to be delivered to each precinct in the morning now. Which means they started delivering machines at 4:30 a.m.!!!!!

Did I mention how tired I am? I'm going to bed. Let me know how this whole thing turns out tomorrow, ok? Good night.
