Altar Workers

If you could give three pieces of advice to someone working with a seeker what would they be.

I would say......

1. Very limited physical contact

2. No stinky breath

3. Worship with them out loud.

In addition to your good advice I would encourage them to affirm the promise of the Holy Ghost and for them to encourage the seeker to seek the infilling of the Holy Ghost and not Tongues!

1. I would make sure and lead them to a place of repentance. Otherwise they're gonna get frustrated really quick.

2. I would remove all well-meaning idiots from the area. You know, the ones who say "if you take those earring off, God will give you His Spirit?"

3. I would make sure that they realize their need to obey the two commands in order to receive the promise. a. repent, b. baptism.

I would advise well meaning folk to not go after someone in the alter without first getting permission from the person who brought them to church.

We've got our neighbours coming right now and she went to the alter for the first time and although we tried to protect her some well meaning folk "jumped" her... and scared her near to death.

If the person in the alter didn't come alone, the person who brought them would surely know their background best... (ie, our neighbour has a Catholic background and was no where near ready for her head to be shook half off and her arms and back to be massaged by total strangers)

She hasn't gone back to the alter yet.
We've explained why people did that, but it hasn't made it any easier for her to take the second try...

I think sincere churches in the business of saving souls should have a little course/class on how to pray with people... or how NOT to.
