Re: State of the Church 2010: Have the Lines Blur
So where do the JR Enseys of the world fall on this sort of thing .... in the amen corner on Obama but anathema for not having any principles as an emergent?
Um. Uh.
He did slam TV, Hollywood and MTV, in the video. Um, Maybe, Uh.
While, I confess .... the stat from the census confirming our "Christian nationhood" drew a hearty, manly chuckle ...
is this the same Census that tallies illegals .... and counts same sex partners as married?
Good ol' American Census.

I watched the video and can't believe my ears. Why do some people think they can speak for the church, for God or for America. What mandate do they have? Who authorized them to speak for God, the church or America? These people belong in the nuthouse, not behind a pulpit.

I think it's more than you think .... How many speak for the modern state of Israel?
How is this any different from the Jeremiah Wrights of the world?

I think there are way too many opinions out there. I don't pretend to speak for anyone. I sit back and listen. I think there is a difference in speaking out for social justice and pretending to speak for the church. At least Obama is an elected official with a majority of Americans that voted for him. How many people voted for the nutjob in that video in order for him to speak for the church? At least the Pope is elected head of the catholics, Bernard can speak for the upc and be credible, but who does the nutjob in the video represent? A congregation of 500, when there are millions of congregations with opposing views? I don't think this guy has a firm grip on reality, neither do conservatives who think like him.

I think he's doing a good work church-wise but has to compartmentalize and take notice of the boundaries ... confusing the Word with our personal convictions and opinions.
Shock value for shock value's sake has no value.
