The huge difference here is that Edwards was talking about the "two Americas" painting himself as someone who was an advocate for the have nots all the while he was getting $400 haircuts and buying a multi million dollar estate.
Its like Al Gore preaching living green to us all while he globe trots around the world in a private jet and sucking up tons of energy in his palatial mansion. The Dems need to come clean with Americans: they say they are for the less fortunate, but they are for the less fortunate when its with OUR money; not theirs.
The Gores were giving less than 1% of their income to charity for years until it made headline news. Someone already posted what the McCains give to charity. If they buy expensive clothes but they give a significant portion of their income to charity---WHO CARES.
If someone declares they are for the poor but they give very little to them personally, that is truly hypocritical.
