Is your Mom the best cook you know?

Well, mine sure isn't!

For the first time in my life, we're spending Thanksgiving somewhere other than my folks. Not that I don't enjoy spending some time with them, but my mother simply was not blessed with the skills necessary to cook. "Bland" is the operative word. Once she actually made GOOD gravy... and spent the entire meal apologizing for putting too much salt in it!

We'll be spending the day at a HUGE get together 40 feet from our house, where my wife's cousins live. About 50+ people are coming from all over the country and we look forward to having GOOD food as well as having some laughs.

Lunch/Dinner is about 2 or 3 depending on when about 15 of them come back from bagging their "tirty pointers".

My mother is a great cook. Some things are too greasy. That is mainly the generation gap. We prefer a lighter fare. But every now and then I get a real hunger for my mother's tacos, chile verde, chile relleno's, enchiladas, arroz con pollo, refritos, etc. My vision of thanksgiving meal is much different than most But it sho nuf is gooood!!

Your mom sounds like my moms cooking., and she doesn't care what people think, she has never been interested in learning new things to cook either., although to be fair there are a few meals I absolutely miss, but she won't cook anything special for me, even though I've been asking her for the last 25yrs to cook her famous fried chicken., she refuses.

I AM the best cook, hands down, thank you JESUS, lol ironic since my mom NEVER cooked a turkey for us growing up., nevertheless sick though I am TODAY, (doc gave me antibiotics today hope to feel better in the a.m.) with my husbands help, and GOD's strength I will be cooking, 'bout ready to make my pumpkin pies in a few., I could use some prayers., pls.

HAPPY DAY OF THANKSGIVING TO GOD, everyone!
*and may giving thanx to our LORD for our numerious blessings, be a daily habit*

Oh dear no. Not even close.

My grandma however.... She's quit cooking any holiday meals though.

I'm working on the fixings for a way too big for me and my kids Thanksgiving meal right now though. lol I don't know that I'm that good of a cook, but I manage and no one generally complains.

My mom is a great cook. But she is not the best cook I know. I am the best cook. LOL

honestly tho, my mom's a great cook. But my grandmother's were both horrible!! My maternal grandma burned everything she made. And my paternal grandma didn't even put chili powder in her chili. NO spices for her. NONE!

My Ma grew up in a typical Wisconsin world were Heinz 57 was considered spicy. Like I said, the BEST gravy she ever made was gravy that she thought was nearly ruined because of too much salt. And the problem is is that she makes things the exact same way she did 35 years ago. Bland.

The best cook I know is usually whoever happens to be in the kitchen of our local Famous Daves or the owner of Pine Wood Supper Club in Mosinee, WI.
