Who Are These Non-Existent Members Showing In New Members?

In the Newest Members section there are names listed that aren't on the Members List?

I assume they are probably spammers who were deleted or something... I just find it interesting.

Some of them are...
New Wine
Diogenes
Darryl
cltrev

Why are these shown as Newest Members and yet not on the Members List?

Some would be spammers. Others may not have clicked the activation link in their email yet.
