The passing of Resolution #4 has caused the UPC to be inconsistent with their stance. So we can now advertise our churches and minstries on TV but we can't own one. We can now run a 30 minute infomercial that is still defined as advertisement but it allows us to include some of our choir singing, some of our preacher preaching, some of our life-changing altar calls and an invitation to the church. But this is NOT ministry on tv it is advertising.
Good or bad is not the goal nor intent of this thread but merely to bring to light an inconsistnecy.
Mark my words, It may not be next year nor the next but television will soon be allowed officially in our manuals. This is only the foothold.
What are your thoughts? Is it coming down that dusty road? And if it is coming is it bringing compromise on other "standards?"
Theo, there is no hidden purpose! Look, the guys that want televisions have them. period. the guys that dont, dont.
this was about using television as a tool for ministry.
at some point in the future, TV will be stricken from the manual in its entirety. that I firmly believe. One can argue this was the first step in that direction, but there is no "hidden" ajenda here. that is silly.

"Hidden" may not the correct word but everyone that voted for this resolution had to know that this would be the first step in eventually removing the tv prohibition from the manual. Surely the progression is clear.

It'll just save everyone money - - now they won't have to go purchase DVD's of their favorite shows to view on the TV sitting in their living rooms without TV hook up.
