Beginnings

In studying Beginnings in the word, I came across two scriptures that I would like to share and get some feedback on. My question is addressing the beginning of Satan.

1Jn 3:8 he that doeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.
I know we have all been taught that Lucifer is Satan, and he fell from Heaven, and had beauty and walked in Edon. But what beginning is these two scriptures speaking of? Is there a beginning talked about, before Genesis?

Thanks,

God Bless

In my opinion, the "beginning" spoken of here is when he began to be the adversary i.e. when he rebelled against YHWH and went from being the anointed cherub to being the adversary.

As far as a beginning before Genesis. That's a whole different subject.
Genesis 1:1-2 could be translated "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth became without form and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters." This is some times referred to as "the gap theory." It places a creation back in the unknown ages, then a creation or renovation which was accomplished in 6 days. Whether these were 24 hour days or other periods of time is another subject also. A couple of verses used for the gap theory are Isaiah 45:18-19 and Jeremiah 4:23.
