New England Patriots = Cheaters

I remember reading in the paper about a game between the Packers and Patriots. During the game, the security for the Packers escorted a Patriots employee out of the stadium and confiscated his equipment. They accused the employee and the Patriots organization of spying and videotaping the playcalls from the Packer sideline.

And that wasn't the first time. Before this, according to ESPN radio, another game involving the Patriots turned up similar accusations. In fact, a player from an opposing team said after the game, (paraphrase) "It was like they were reading the play calls before the play began."

Well, now yet again, the same employee was ejected from the Patriots vs Jets last weekend. They confiscated his video and recording device, wrapped it in a box and sent it to the NFL office to open an investigation into the Patriots cheating activities.

From what I have read online, it's been quiet from the Patriots office . . . which only causes me to believe the accusations that much more. In the link below, only one Patriot player commented on the accusations and stated he "don't think" the Patriots "do that stuff."

The chorus of accusations of the Patriots organization cheating to gain an upper hand is getting louder.

To me, this is bigger than the Michael Vick story. I didn't say worse . . . but it is indeed bigger, because it puts a HUGE asterisk on their Super Bowl victories and any other major game victories.

If true, the NFL needs to make a big statement. A HUGE statement. And I think the commish is just the man that would do it if the investigation turns up evidence of any cheating by the Patriots.

Unfortunately, they could only be hit with draft picks. Personally, I think they should pay a stiff fine, be banned from the postseason playoffs and lose draft picks . . . for the next 2 years at least, if these accusations are indeed true.

In College Football, schools can lose scholarships for cheating. Those can really cripple a school in a short time.

Since the draft is the only place the NFL can level punishment, I hope the commish takes their drafts for the next 2-3 years, depending on the number of games in which the Patriots cheated. If he really wants to make a statement, make the first 2-3 years a complete loss of draft picks and years 4 and 5 allow only 1 or 2 picks.

I hate cheaters. I used to like the Patriots, the coach and Brady. After the first accusations I lost a little confidence that they were playing by the rules and not cheating the system. Now, I'm completely through with them.

As through with them as I am with Michael Vick, and I hope the guy never steps on another football field.

What say any of you?

Not near as pitiful as the Patriots are going to be if action is taken in regards to this cheating business.

Randy probably loves it. Probably why he wanted to go to NE in the first place.

you should watch some Packers' games before you say that...

Our defense is great and Rodgers is going to be very good when Favre does retire...

we'll be just fine this year, next year, and beyond...

Oh yeah, and the NFL has announced (just reported on Sportscenter 2 minutes ago) that they have determined that the Patriots WERE cheating on Sunday against the Jets and the video has evidence that the Patriots were cheating... Now the Pats get to try and defend themselves, but this could get ugly...

So the big news is that NFL Commish Goodell has pretty damning evidence of the Patriots cheating and will be issuing punishment sometime Friday or shortly after.

I was listening to ESPN radio again and heard a little more about the recent events at the Patriots vs Jets game.

According to the analysts, when the Jets and NFL security approached this Patriots assistant to confiscate his equipment and kick him out of the stadium, there was a big confrontation with Patriots security personnel. So much so that, according to the radio, the police had to be called to break it up.

Another very interesting thing is the Jets coach used to be an assistant with the Patriots under Belichek and knew about the cheating . . . in fact, some suggest this Jets coach knew enough about it to bust the assistant involved in the cheating.

Most say the Patriots will lose a draft pick or two, I completely disagree with ESPN radio who suggests they'll only need to be penalized a couple draft picks. I say that's not enough. Earlier I gave a 5 year punishment, but that was a little harsh. After thinking about it a little more, here's what I say.

Patriots should be banned from the post-season playoffs this year; and
The will not be invited, allowed or given any draft picks for the '08 draft.

If there are any future problems or any evidence of more cheating by the Patriots, it should extend the time further.

If nothing else, they have to be banned from the playoffs and at least the first few rounds of the '08 draft. That's just a must.

For now you can place the Patriots and Belichek along side of Barry Bonds. They will be known as great in their respective sport . . . but their stats and careers will forever be remembered and marked with an asterisk.

I hope to see alot of "Cheating is unPATRIOTic" signs (or like that) on the sidelines for the next game.

You gotta be kidding me! Wow! The unPatriots and Belicheat (i like it!) got off really easy here!

Belicheat - Fined $500,000
big deal . . . he'll make that up in one or two personal appearances, commercials or speaking engagements.

unPatriots - Fined $250,000
again, big deal. that's not even a drop in the bucket to the Patriots bankroll.

unPatriots -
If they make it to the playoffs: will lose a 1st round draft pick (whoopeee . . . they have another, even BETTER 1st round pick they've acquired from the 49ers.)

If they don't make the playoffs: will lose the 2nd and 3rd round picks. (doesn't matter . . . they'll raid the Free Agency to add top players to the team.)

Across the wire analysts and fans are rounding booing NFL Commish Goodell's first act against an NFL Coach. Many seem to think Goodell's playing favorites and is unconsistent with his penalties between Belicheat and NFL players.

Just ask one of the coaches for the Cowboys who was taking HGH because of an illness. He's on the sidelines for 4 games while Belicheat gets away with a dumb, mild rebuke.

The unPatriots should have been banned from the playoffs. We've now got a scenario in which Belicheat and the unPatriots could likely be playing in the Super Bowl, which is completely unacceptable for the type of behavior they've exhibited.

Anyone else think Goodell acted a little too fast with this and didn't think this through? Did he even realize that the unPatriots had 2 first round picks and taking away one wouldn't do much to them? It took just 4 days to make a decision . . . and the decision he made makes me wonder if he shouldn't have sat on it a little longer to really examine the effects and make a better judgement against them.

As a longstanding fan of the New England Patriots I am so disappointed that they would feel it necessary to cheat in this manner when they have so much talent on their team. I'm sure they're not the only team doing this, but this is disgraceful in my opinion.
