No different then making a photo copy of a news article.
I just called Steve Shirley the owner of the "Daily Review". ANY article written from a news source is Open and fair game as long as "Quoted as written and without changes made to the original author".

Are you sure News Articles are not copywritten?
You quoted from the Guardian

Copyright is a property right. Copyright law protects copyright material from unauthorised use and provides a business framework for dealing in intellectual property. All Guardian and Observer material is copyright whether marked © or not.
Copyright applies globally and is regulated by a number of international treaties and conventions (including the Berne Convention, the Universal Copyright Convention, the Rome Convention and the Geneva Convention), so whether you are in the Antarctic or Zimbabwe, St Petersburg in Russia, or St Petersburg in Florida, you need to obtain permission to use copyright material before using it.

Our content distribution system which you can find at

We may be prepared to allow you to distribute or reproduce other parts of Guardian Unlimited or the material in certain circumstances. Please email our Permissions Administrator Penny Jones at

Ok, now if you can get email permission from the editor to reproduce the ENTIRE content of an article, which they probably paid for and which is how they make their profit, please reproduce the email in the future for us to read. Otherwise don't just state that news articles are not copywritten
One more thing, the news item you linked to was from the AP...the AP sells that information to anyone who wants to buy it, which is where a lot of news sources get their information.

Now what we are asking is to post no MORE than 50% of the content. Infact I would say we should limit it to 1/3 of the content.
I have contacted the editor of WND on this issue too and they concur they are fine with portions of quotes but to quote a lot is OUT OF THE QUESTION.
For now on, quote what you feel is important, tell people there are even more important parts they should read and then include the link.
Im going to address this issue again with admin because in the rules we say about 50% but even that I think news agencies would say is too much
