Israel the fig tree?

Mat. 24:32 Now learn this parable from the fig tree; When it's branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, You know that summer is near.
:33 So you also,when you see all these things, know that it is near-at the doors!
:34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass awaytill all these things take place


Mark 11:13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves,He wentto see if perhaps He would find something on it. When he came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the seaon for figs,
:14 In response Jesus said to it, "let noone eat fruit from you ever again". And His discples heard it.

11:20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
:21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him," Rabbi,look! The fig tree You cursed has dried up and withered away."

Is the fig tree a symbol of Israel, or the apostate church?

I thought the fig tree in Mat was just used to symbolize the end times

It is very clear, it is apostate Israel that was about to kill the Son of God. No one should rely on Israel/the old covenant ever again. Israel's cup was full, and less than forty years later the tree was pucked up by the roots by the Roman armies. Over 2 million apostate Jews killed in though out Jerusalem and Judea, yet all the Christians understood what Jesus and the apostle were saying and the fled. Israel dried up and withered away, reaping all the curses contained in the Law.

Yes that seems to be the one in Mark, but the fig tree in Mat.24, can that be endtime Israel, the branch being Jesus, and the leaves being the 144,00?

In a broad sense I think in MARK.11 the fig tree represents individuals who don't bear fruit.
In a kind way I'm not trying to debate here I think the fig tree in MATT.24 and LUKE 21. represents the signs that those those in the first century saw to alert them that Jerusalem was fixing to be seiged by Titus and the Roman armies.

How could it be endtime of our age, when Jesus said this generation shall not pass until all these things come to pass. I believe He was speaking of the New Covenant/Christianity putting forth tender leaves as it began to bud from Pentecost.

If you want to know what things would come to pass in that generation go back and read. The disciples asked three questions: Matt. 24.3, "And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us, (1) when shall these things be? and (2) what shall be the sign of thy coming, and (3) and of the end of the world?"

He is speaking of the "end times" for that age, the old covenant age that ended completely in 70 AD.

IF the fig tree represents the modern state of Israel then the "this generation" would be the generation starting in 1948 and ending at the latest 2068.....Gen.6:3 And the LORD said,"my Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh: yet his days shall be 120 years."

all THESE things come to pass. The fig tree was a parable about the ending of this age and all these things that needed to come to pass
