Looking forward to service tonight!

I'm looking forward to our service tonight. Our guest speaker is Bro. Cecil
Robinson from Middleton, TN. I made my first trip into a Pentecostal church
25 years ago, the summer of 1982. He was preaching a revival at a church
that a friend had invited me to. I was a long way from Pentecostal, believe
me. In fact I thought you folks were all wacko, weird, and crazy! That is
what I had been trained to believe by my parents. My dad was a medical
professional and president of the local country club. My mother was a
Southern baptist and we believed all of the Pentecostal people were religious
fanatics as my dad liked to say.
It's amazing what one visit by the presence of God can do to a person's
perspective. I entered that service in 82 thinking there is no way I would
ever be a part of this type of church. I left that service, went home, and
told my mother that if I ever went to any type of church it would be a
Pentecostal church. Why, because as Bro. Robinson was preaching, the
Holy Ghost paid me a visit, and I realized that there was something at work
here that I had never felt or experienced in my home church.
So, I am looking forward to hearing Brother Robinson minister. It has caused
me to reflect back on that eventful night in 1982 when I heard the Lord
calling.

Yes, it is. I believe it was the Apostle Peter who said, "Stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance." To keep from getting complacent in our
souls we need to remind ourselves over and over of what the Lord has
done in our lives.
Looking back at that time in my life, I remember that I attended two churches
that summer as a result of a friend inviting me. I was not interested in
church. My only reason for going in each case was to be with a girl.
The first girl carried me to a Church of Christ. I remember very little about
that visit, except that the minister preaching was very boring.
The second girl invited me to her mother's church which was Pentecostal.
It was during the summer in a rural area, so each of these churches were
having their summer revivals. Needless to say, from the start of the service
I didn't think the Pentecostal church was boring. In fact I
remember that I thought it was all very humorous. I watched as people
lifted their hands, prayed out loud, and praised God in loud voices. This
was all funny to me. I almost laughed aloud, but when the minister got in
the pulpit and began to preach, this was when the Spirit visited me, and I
felt something that I had never felt in my life. My whole perspective of the
service changed instantaneously. How many times I have wished that every
first time visitor in our churches would fell what I felt that night.

My first memory of Cecil Robinson was him singing "I Came on Business for the King" at Mississippi District Conference when I was in Bible College (1976 maybe??). He and his wife are extremely kind people, as well as his kids.

I saw him at campmeeting. It was the first time I had seen him in years. Your MIL pointed him out to me or I probably wouldn't have known him since he's aged! Rhonda stopped and spoke to Francis. Haven't seen her in ages either and she looked very nice.

By the way, HSMF238, Cecil's oldest daughter is married to my husband's ex-step brother. See if you can figure that one out!

Now, that one is beyond me.
By the way we had a great service tonight. I had not heard Brother Robinson
preach since that eventful night in 1982. I really enjoyed hearing him. I love
to hear him sing as well. He is an original and one of a kind.
