Inconsistencies
Today my son and I were driving, listening to XM Radio, and a secular love song began to play. I said, "Your mom and I had this in our wedding". He seemed very surprised, and said, "You mean you guys were actually allowed to have secular love songs in your wedding?" I replied "yes", and he said, "But, how come you couldn't listen to it any other time?
THis got me to thinking about some of the inconsistencies with the way we were raised.
For instance, beards and mustaches were not allowed when I was growing up, but we could grow them or apply fakes ones for Easter and Christmas plays.
As mentioned above, we were not allowed to listen to secular music, but in nearly every wedding we attended, secular love songs were sung.
We were taught that a woman's hair was to be long and uncut because it was her glory, but all of the women were strongly encouraged to wear their hair piled high on their heads, not allowing it to hang down.
Anyone else want to discuss these, or add to the list?

No secular love songs at our wedding because 1) to me that would be inconsistent and 2) not approved by the majority of church people or pastors in our area -- at that time anyhow and I'm talking 1973.

The funny thing is, I never thought anything at all about it until my 18 year old son asked me today!

One of the young preachers in our district used secular love songs like "Once Twice Three Times a Lady" (that was one of them) at his wedding, and the pastor he was assisting was so angry with him. He was sat down for several months as a result.

How 'bout "No organized sports"... but they would have the most aggressive, competitive softball games on Sunday afternoons and nowadays even have teams in the local community leagues...
Looking down on people who do drugs, but being perfectly fine with borrowing prescription strength painkillers from relatives or friends for their "headache"...
Saying that women should not dress, "Sexy", yet embracing high-heeled shoes which do nothing except extend a woman's leg muscles in a way that causes them to be more attractive.
Pantyhose which only change the tint of a woman's skin and cause her legs to look smoother... but makeup which does the same thing on a different area of the body is somehow wrong.
Claiming that make-up changes the appearance that God gave you, but deodorant is okay when it changes the smell God gave you...
Tanning which changes the color of your skin is okay, but dying your hair is not.
Buying expensive watches as engagement and/or wedding gifts because a ring would be "jewelry".
Preaching against pants on women because they are men's apparel, but allowing women to wear men's socks, t-shirts, sweatshirts, ball caps, etc.
Men who pride themselves on their masculinity but embrace being the "bride" of Christ.
Claiming that the purpose of the church is to use every available means to spread the gospel, but in the same rule-book, disallow the most available means of reaching the masses around the world.
Just a few off the top of my head...
