God is Bigger

I heard this on a christian radio station. A man was talking about a problem that he had with his son. He took him to a "christian" movie and afterward they talked and resolved things. He said that while the movie was instrumental in helping the situation, he was glad that God was bigger than the silver screen.

The depth of this statement really moved me. I was awed that someone could see that God was bigger than a movie, or all of Hollywood for that matter. Real deep thought here.

It is saddening to hear folks who call themselves christian going to movies to get help.

Since when has Hollywood had your best interests at heart?
Since when has that institution been such a source of godly wisdom and guidance?
Since when has it supported morality?
Since when has it been worthy of our rapt attention due to its righteous message?

Why is it that the Baptists are figuring out that it is time to distance themselves from the influence of Hollywood yet the apostolic church is running headlong after it?

What a mixed-up time we live in when evil is being called good.

Please give an example of an Apostolic Church that is embracing Hollywood corruption. I think the they preach against the bad influences of Hollywood much more than the Baptists. Seems to me the key is we should use whatever influence we have to glorify God and promote rightousness - no matter what the venue may be.

Your handle "Nobody Important" makes me sad. There is no one who is not important, only people who have not yet discovered their purpose in life. If you are a Christian God has a wonderful plan for your life and when you figure out what your life keys are and how God wants to utilize these for His purpose, you will not say that you are "Nobody Important".

I understand where you are coming from and your words mean well. Rest assured that I in no way feel like this about myself. It is just a nic.
I know my purpose in life. I am a minister and have been for a number of years.

Are you serious? You, who decided to go on tv? You who has promoted your own tv experience?
IMHO- to embrace tv is to embrace its corruption. To feel otherwise to me is ludicrous at best.

It is a shame on the apostolic church to follow the ways of Hollywood which so many are trying to promote it.

I hardly think it would be wise to point fingers at specific churches that follow Hollywood. I am not going to do it. There are enough people out there willing to do so. I don't feel that that would be productive.
I do feel that this issue is worthy of discussion since it has such far reaching implications for the church.

I do know that you and I are on opposing ends of this based on your posts and mine. I am not going to argue with you here, but am open to discourse on the matter.

Unless you are of a "TV is bad - Internet is Good" mentality then we are not on opposite ends of the spectrum. Even if you believe internet is less harmful I think we would agree that the content of each is what is really in question. And we would likely agree that a "TV" satelite channel dedicated to lifesaving techniques for medical doctors can have benefit for good and be used to the glory of God.

And national geographic channel is the same content TV or internet...

Whether we like it or not there are gray areas...

N.I., there are actually several movies that have come out lately that portray Christian values and can be used as teaching tools for young people. Not everything that comes out of Hollywood is bad, although I agree most of it is. There are many young people who are now rising up to be movie producers and actors, whose desire is to infiltrate Hollywood with Godly living and principles. If we had done this years ago, instead of shielding ourselves from the whole scene, Hollywood would be in much better shape today.
