What is Accountability?

From a different thread:

HOWEVER, that being said, there are a few people that I trust as much as I am able, who I hold in the utmost regard, and whose spirtitual opinions I consider with utmost seriousness.

So maybe the actual question should be: what is accountability?
Any thoughts?

I choose friends that I admire... and I care about what my friends think of me. That is the only accountability I have and all I want.

Some of my friends are mentors in specific areas (who might not be worth emulating in other areas) and some are just good overall role models...

Choosing your friends carefully is key... some of my close friends from high school are dopers who work in warehouses, etc. for minimum wage. When this happens I look for better role models... I would still be friendly to them if I saw them but they are no longer my close friends. I believe you become more like those who you hang around most.

So if one of your friends or mentors told you that they were concerned about a particular area of your life. You would consider what they said respectfully, as you know they care about you. But wouldn't you still do what you thought was best? Is that still considered being accountable?

Quite simply, accountability is what we want everyone else to have.

On rare occasions, I have changed my plans based on the advise of my mentors/friends... usually I do what I think is best. I do believe that everyone is different and that some benefit from a more authoritarian structure in their lives... this is usually people who are unable to make the correct decisions on their own.

Ok, so I totally accept responsibility for my own actions. I am pretty straight forward that way. I consider myself to be accountable to God.

But does accountability with others come into play?

Seek input from others in an attempt to get as much objectivity as possible (for there is wisdom in the counsel of many), but in the end it is your responsibility to put the pieces together and make your own decisions for you alone are responsible for those decisions and your behavior and, from a christian perspective, you are to weigh it all out according to the living word of God.

What I find very interesting is that so many of the Conservatives are quick to tell me how I need accountability or to condemn me for lack of accountability. But none of them has shown up on this thread, to explain what exactly it is

Some Bible Verses on Accountability

........The Real Deal below:

Matthew 12:36
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

Romans 14:12
So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Galatians 3:6
Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
