LAST FRIDAY, most major media outlets touted a major story about Russian attempts to hack into U.S. voting systems, based exclusively on claims made by the Department of Homeland Security. “Russians attempted to hack elections systems in 21 states in the run-up to last year’s presidential election, officials said Friday,” began the USA Today story, similar to how most other outlets presented this extraordinary claim.
So what was wrong with this story? Just one small thing: it was false. The story began to fall apart yesterday when Associated Press reported that Wisconsin – one of the states included in the original report that, for obvious reasons, caused the most excitement – did not, in fact, have its election systems targeted by Russian hackers:
Then the story collapsed completely last night. The Secretary of State for another one of the named states, California, issued a scathing statement repudiating the claimed report:

Was 45 actually referring to the U.S. government when it comes to disseminating "fake news"? Because the source came from his own Cabinet agency, their own investigations.

Was it "fake news" when our government, for the most part, got the intel wrong regarding what was going on in Iraq IN THE MONTHS leading up to the 2nd Iraq invasion?

Mistakes? Miscalculations? Lies? Fake News? None of the above? Which was it?

Who made Scaramucci do what he did and say what he said?

Who told Spicer to hide behind some bushes?

Who decided to fire Comey?

Who made Manafort and the other guy decide to do the work of foreign agents inside our country and WHY haven't they been labeled as traitors?

Now Price and Zinke have used tax-payer funds for private events?

It's not even been a year yet!

These folks have brought all of this on their selves!

And besides, I think your post and my response belong on another thread-- not this one.

My answer was limited to why the Dept. of Homeland Security would put out this report.
In my opinion, (and that is all any of us have on this story at the moment), some holdovers from the BHO admin put this report together and put it out.
Reasoning being why would the Trump admin put this out, as it furthers the "Russia" narrative.
Now, this should help get rid of whoever put this out, as they obviously did not do their due diligence on the story.
In that regard, it helps the Trump admin.
