Classification by race in America should be banned

It is high time that Americans of good will, regardless of where their ancestors came from, to rise up in one voice and demand that classification of Americans by race be BANNED. One's ethnicity should neither help them or hinder them in finding employment, housing or educational opportunities. Otherwise, the madness we witnessed yesterday will increase.

Nonsense. Govt classifications are primarily about record keeping. Special handouts of money and privilege based on race? Sure, that can go. But pretending ethnicity doesn't exist has never worked anywhere, anytime.

This proposal would just be another Tower of Babel Redux.

So no more Chinatown, Little Italy, Asian Markets, Gladys' Chicken Shacks, el barrio, the 'hood, reservations and tribal councils, and everything else that all ethnic groups intentionally do to separate themselves into their ethnic groups?

Maybe all ethnic groups can stop speaking in their native languages, give up their Oktoberfests and Cinco de Mayos, their hajibs and fedoras, and everything else that causes some kind of ethnic divide?

It wouldn't matter one bit if the US government gave up classifications by race or ethnic group. Every race and ethnic group in the US would just do their job for them.

To surrender one's ethnic identity is to surrender one's identity. It's just not going to happen.

I do not agree. Nobody is asking any person to give up their ethnic identity or any group to stop gathering in honor of their ethnic uniqueness. This is a free market economy and people can market whatever they want. But as far as their AMERICAN identity is concerned, none of it should even be considered. Ethnic identity should neither help or hinder anyone as it relates to employment, housing or educational opportunity.
