I cried and cried last night....working with street people and favela people is not most people's cup of tea. First because they are always moving ...you love them and they are gone...It is really just a call to love and plant for you seldom see results like you see working with other people. However all my life it has been my call and no matter what I do besides that I always end up working and caring for people that are the poorest on earth. (Yes, I have had more results than many over the years for I have lived a long time however it is very hard in many ways.
For the last two days I have not felt good and it seems since my round with Chikungunya it seems to have affected many places in my body. Several doctors told me it was just by the hand of God I did not die at my age and how bad off I got. However I have symptoms that linger.
Yesterday I had pushed and pushed my body so I said to Brother Alvear I think I will not go to church tonight. My legs and feet were so swollen and I was in such pain. He went over to the church (beside our house) . and in a few minutes my cell phone rang. Honey 3 of your babies are here and they want you. I said bring them over and I will talk to them...Here they came running to my bedroom and there first word were, Maw, maw we want to talk to you. They sat on my bed and the oldest one said, Maw maw we have been talking and we want to get baptized! Jesus told us to be baptized! I talked to them a little while between tears and they said oh mawmaw go to church with us...so they won out! They sat all through service and went to the altar afterwards.
Some do not even want to be around my babies but I told the church to pray for them. (Street children are very dangerous in Brazil) .
Saturday afternoon they are coming for me to give them a Bible study about baptism. Perhaps they someday will be a preacher...a missionary...who knows what the future holds...I do know the Bible says,"Blessed are you who sow beside all waters" .
Jesus said, in
Luke 14:13,14
"Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just."
