Calling on the Name of Jesus (at baptism)
Someone close to me was present at a baptism where the candidate was instructed to pray and call on the name of Jesus, then were summarily baptized.
Sound doctrine? I believe so, but it's a bit of a variance from those who see the minister's role as one who invokes.

It cannot be wrong. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved!

The person being baptized is the one who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Not just the baptizer. As YOUR faith be it unto YOU.

when Jesus commanded us to cast out devils in his name it was not the one with the devils who invoked the name. Paul shows that in Acts. So the baptism in the name must likewise be the Baptizer doing the invoking I believe.

I understand, but we are baptizing, and it is the faith of the one being baptized which is paramount. They first must believe, repent, calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ as they go down in Jesus name. We as ministers are praying with them, and invoking the name of Christ with them. Yet, if I believe and they don't, or could care less, then my faith in Jesus name cannot help them one bit.

Re: Calling on the Name of Jesus (at baptism)
Is the person being baptized "in Jesus name" or "into" Jesus name? Is a minister using his authority to baptize someone as "in the name"....or is the person being baptized "INTO JESUS CHRIST"?
It seems the one baptizing is IMMERSING the person into the water but the person is calling on the name of Jesus washing away their sins.
The problem is we have separated repentance and baptism to far from each other. We changed the place where one calls on the Lord from the waters of baptism to a wooden altar. Or anyplace else for that matter.
The original plan seemed to have been to call on Jesus IN BAPTISM.
