Another Anti-islam Protest w/Muhammed Cartoons

As much as I'm all for the First Amendment, I'm a bit divided as to these anti-islam cartoon contests. Tonight, in N. Phoenix, a former marine is organizing a protest outside the same islamic center the two terrorists who were killed in Texas last month frequented. The protest is in response to that failed attack. The organizer also said there would be a muhammed cartoon contest and urged participants to the protest to exercise their Second Amendment rights (IE bring guns) in case their First Amendment rights were attacked.

A Twitter acct allegedly ran by isis has warned it will attack the event. It also posted the home address of the organizer. They'll fail again if they try to attack the event. AZ still has the wild, wild west blood in it and I guarantee you the protestors will be armed to the teeth. I see people open carrying all the time everywhere I go, just in day to day life.

I'm hoping nothing will happen, but the protest is smack dab in the middle of the evening prayers and right outside the islamic center, so it's very likely there could be violence.

Just cause you can do a thing, doesnt mean you should do a thing.

I agree. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

I get that people want to protest against terrorists who want to stiffle free speech and expression. But to do it right outside the islamic center where they're gathering for their evening prayer...that's a punch in the face.

From what I've read in the local news, IMO, it seems like this guy WANTS a confrontation. Just my ignorant opinion. I don't know him personally, but it seems he's hoping to agitate them enough to cause an attack, which is why he posted that people should exercise their 2nd Amendment rights (bring guns).

Now someone else is trying to organize a counter protest to promote religious freedom for all religions. Sadly, they'll be right in the crossfire if anything happens.

Honestly, if something does happen, I wouldn't be against this guy be held responsible, either criminally (if any criminal statutes apply) or in a civil suit.

I agree. This is similar to the dude who burned the Koran.

1 Corinthians 10: 23,24

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

*weary sigh*

Is it even worth making some long comment on the fallacies of both parties? Sometimes this world can be so depressing in the decisions those in it make.

This kind of thinking is the same kind of thinking that the Westboro church has...
