WAP Bibles

Do you use a Word Aflame Press Bible? My kids have the (Nelson) Slimline edition with doctrinal insert. I've seen several evangelists use that one when they travel to preach.

I've considered the large print (same as Zondervan giant print) or the Thompson. I like the Thompson for study, but I don't like the print quality for preaching.

I'm also interested in the Search for Truth Study Bible.

I like the ASB for preaching (sometimes, at home anyway). It's notes should be improved. Some are really good, others are hit or miss.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about any of these, on what you've used, and what you like.

Re: WAP Bibles

Like C. S. Lewis, any translation is fine with me. I either translate the NT passage myself, or I use my NIV.

In my younger years, I read a different translation every year. I did that for about 10 years. I got tired of not having the same Bible for devotional reading. If you want to get a feel for a certain translation, read it cover to cover.

I do not use Bible "notes".

How do people like the notes in the WAP Bibles ?? I heard Dr. Segraves wrote one of them.

I bought a WAP Bible once, I was disappointed and angry with it, I expected much better notes than what I got in that Bible.
The low quality scholarship in that bible turned me off from buying another Bible from them.

I hate the Trinitarian doctrine, but their bibles often have much higher quality in biblical scholarship.

I heard they have raised their quality of Biblical scholarship in the New Apostolic study bible, but I would hate to be burned again, so I am holding off buying one until I see what is the general reaction to it.

Re: WAP Bibles

I tried reading the WAP Nelson thinline. I like how dark the font is compared to the Nelson thinline reference Bible. It's still small and the font gets lost in the gutter. I'm considering buying the giant print. Has anyone here seen that one? What do you think about it?

Randy, SFT can be "mastered" by a teacher with a little guidance. It is filled with preaching points and can be set up where you have the student explain the Bible to you, and you simply comment on what they are reading.

I teach it like, "Jeff Arnold" style.

The student loves it because they read and I narrate what they are reading. They are unwittingly co-teachers(even before they are saved).

Re: WAP Bibles

Randy, also, when they read the Bible to you, thats basically of your study time. They remind you what you need to say.(I just follow them with my open Bible and my notes in my Bible remind me to stop them for preaching points).

There is very little preparation needed when doing it this way.
