Evangelical Council For Financial Accountability
EVANGELICAL COUNCIL FOR FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Is anyone a member? How about a member of a similar organization?
What is the plan for when someone falls, within the "Ministry" you are a part of?
Is there real accountability?
Are there safegaurds in place?

Re: Evangelical Council For Financial Accountabili
Recently when I was looking to form the Pentecostal Homeschool Scholarship Fund I did some research into a few organizations to develope manage the fund.
One of the things that gave me confidence in choosing who I did, was their longtime membership in the ECFA and their 4 star rating with the same.
Does your church or organization have an accountability program in place?
Is it independent and free from conflicts of interests?
How can people who are a part of your group be assured they are investing in a ministry with sound fiscal management and practice?
How can we earn the publics trust when there is no independent third party oversight?

I know what ECFA stands for and I like it, most churches that I know the way they are set up wouldn't qualify, too many pastors want to control everything without question. And not having family run every department doesn't fly well either.

That is disturbing - in more ways than one.
Why would the church have lower standards than the business world?
Does'nt this very idea of secrecy spawn questions? It should.

Re: Evangelical Council For Financial Accountabili
One of the benefits of a church borrowing money is they have to deal with a bank. almost all banks require an audit and previously audited financial statements. This is really done by CPA's and a lot of embezzlements are not found by committees.

Is that not a bit naive? The entire purpose of such an organization is to provide professional standards of accountability, and maintain financial transparency.
The ECFA Membership elect the Board of Directors, who in turn oversee the staff and standards committee, who in turn review and monitor the membership. I am sure it's not perfect - but the safety net is greatly enhanced by the direct involvement of the membership and their pledge to transparency if audited.
