NSA Backlash Continues...

Quote:
Rand Paul, the libertarian Republican senator, said on Sunday that he would consider organising a class-action lawsuit over the collection of telephone and internet information. “We are looking through so much data that I think it makes our fight against terrorism worse.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.), who is considering a run for the White House in 2016, said on “Fox News Sunday” that he is considering asking major U.S. telecommunications firms to ask their customers to join a lawsuit.

“If we get a million people in a class-action suit, things might change,” Mr. Paul said.

Mr. Paul didn’t elaborate on the plan, and a spokeswoman for the senator wasn’t immediately available to comment.

I don't know if this is actually something which could be done. I would be interested in knowing if the NSA, or any government agency, could be targeted in a class action lawsuit. But I would definitely support it if it was able to be done.

Sen. Paul will get a lot of support and publicity if he follows through with this. Perhaps enough to propel him to win the Republican nomination and even send him to the White House. I'd LOVE to see Sen. Paul in the White House.

Quote:
Democratic senator Mark Udall called for a review of the Patriot Act, which was written in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, after it was revealed that government surveillance of telephone calls and online activity was more extensive than thought.

The senator, who has warned for years about growing government surveillance, said the law needed to be revised to restore public confidence that privacy was being protected. “My main concern is Americans don’t know the extent to which they are being surveilled,” he told ABC.

There have been a precious few Democrats who have come out against this. Ron Wyden is one that I like, and Udall is trying to join him. I disagree that the Patriot Act should be "revised" or amended, as Sen. Sensenbrenner said. It should be completely repealed. But that's unlikely to happen.

Republicans are hypocrites on this. They allowed a huge infringement against the rights of the American people by the government with the PA; but they were dead set against Obamacare - because it's a huge infringement against the rights of the American people.

They want to repeal Obamacare - with which I agree; yet, they would balk at the thought of repealing the PA. Both are equally bad. Both equally infringe on our rights, however, the PA (IMO) is worse for constitutional liberties; Obamacare is bad mostly for the economy.

Re: NSA Backlash Continues...

Rand Paul is going to have an uphill battle from some of the ignorant people in the Republican Party who listen to talking points without checking voting records or the person's very words.

The division on-line is tremendous...many not understanding the difference between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism for one. Another misconception is that Rand wants to legalize marijuana. That is not his stand. He is not for legalization, but stands on state's rights. "States should be allowed to make a lot of these decisions. I want things to be decided more at a local basis, with more compassion. I think it would make us as Republicans different. I think, for example, we should tell young people, 'I'm not in favor of you smoking pot, but if you get caught smoking pot, I don't want to put you in jail for 20 years,"

Sorry for the hijack, but it gets very frustrating. We had a debate last night going over the dishonesty of the RNC during the primaries and at Convention. Yet, these misinformed people didn't care what the RNC did to take away their grassroots rights, as long as Romney won the nomination. There is nothing you can do for stupid. I hate the RNC, and I rarely use that word.

The NSA Has A Secret Group Called 'TAO' That's Been Hacking China For 15 Years

China's response has been, simply: yeah but the U.S. did it to us first, and worse.

It turns out, China might just be telling it like it is this time.

Maybe that is why Snowden decided on Hong Kong to release his information.

Re: NSA Backlash Continues...

FBI Director George Mueller is testifying before some Congressional committee right now.

There was a very testy exchange between, I believe, TX Rep. Louie Gohmert and Mueller in which Johnson asked why there was so much info being classified. He pressed Mueller on the "Sensitive Operations Review Committee" and who comprises the committee. He said he's never heard of the committee. Mueller didn't have an answer for who comprised the committee or who it reported to. Then he questioned why the FBI did not visit the mosque where the Boston bombers frequented. Mueller said the Congressman had his facts wrong. Rep. Gohmert lit up at that comment and said, "If you're going to call me a liar, give me a specific example." Mueller shot back "We visited the mosque." Rep. Gohmert asked when they visited and if they showed photos of the bombers. Mueller told him he answered the question already and was not going to revisit it. Rep. Gohmert stated Mueller didn't answer the question of when the FBI visited and if they asked about the bombers. Mueller said the FBI visited a few months before the bombing for "community outreach." Nothing was discussed about the man who founded the mosque, who is currently doing time in prison for terrorism; nor did the FBI ask about the bombers.

Mueller is shady.

Yes, Mueller is certainly shady. I really like Jason Chaffetz. Mueller says he was sorry he didn't have time to prepare answers to the questions. Chaffetz pointed out that they were sent ahead of time and would like to know if they could set a deadline as to when they could call "foul" for not answering.

Yes, I just saw that! I mean, yeah I imagine Mueller is incredibly busy; but when you're getting ready to appear before a committee, I would think you would prepare for it. This is more of the same from this administration. They don't take Congress or the people seriously. They don't feel the need to look at prepared questions, because they don't believe they have to answer them.

More questions about True the Vote now....

I'm just going to say Mueller will claim one of two things: it's an ongoing investigation or I don't know.
