Voter Suppresion Efforts Backfired

American Democrats have been out of work and suffereing through this economic downturn like American Republicans.

However, when Democrats saw what state GOP legislatures were attempting to do all across this country by reducing the number of early voting days and making voting more difficult, the discouraged and sleeping Democrat population was stirred and I heard that more Democrats (either nationally or statewide here in FL) turned out for this election than for the election in 2008.

I am glad that happened.

Democrats were outspent nationally as well-- and they still won!

Makes me feel good to be an American!
My party didn't win, but the American Principles did win and I am glad!

There would be people that would gripe even if there was an entire year of early voting allowed and the polls were open to mid-night on election day! The government should give them free rides and a free meal for voting, etc.

That doesn't justify the attempts by several GOP state legislatures to make voting more difficult for their own citizens.

It may have been a fiscal issue. Polling place workers are paid. One can't just assume that voter disenfranchisement was the motivation. If so, how did the Democrats let that happen? They could have a Federal lawsuit!

Not assuming here-- at least when it comes to the ugly partisan efforts by the GOP legislators in PA.

I would like to look at all the states who made voting more difficult for their citizens over the last tow years. I am quite confident that I will find that ALL of the states who enacted such measures had strong GOP to push those measures through, like PA and here in FL.

Tennessee is a strong Red state. We had early voting for two weeks and they closed it on Nov 1st. If you missed the deadline, you had to vote 5 days later on election day.

I had some friends say that when they entered the polling place, they only asked for their name and address and looked it up on the computer. There was NO personal identification asked for at all! In other words, if you knew the name of a neighbor that wasn't going to vote, you could vote for them! Just crazy stuff!

I would bet you that there are probably short lines in those precincts that had long, long lines in other local and statewide elections that take place there. Volunteers come from within the precinct, and there probably wasn't enough volunteers to help. Who knows? I doubt if it was a conspiracy!

Evidently you don't follow the political news. They filed law suits in several states and won most.
