prayer life determine salvation?

Heard a statement today that your prayer life determines if you will be saved or lost.

Agree?

Re: prayer life determine salvation?

I told my 15 almost 16 yr old son last week, that I think if one has zilch zero personal prayer life at all, IMO, their salvation might be in question.

He plays an instrument on the church platform 3x a week, yet he can't seem to grasp the importance of atleast some, personal prayer time.

Hes fine praying when he's with a group,( be it meeting w youth, church, or even at home family prayer), but trying to urge him for alone time, seems to be next to impossible to happen. Maybe I lack fathering wisdom, maybe his personal relationship is not much more than skin deep, maybe it's primarily his age...I dunno. Wish I did...

Re: prayer life determine salvation?

I use to sit under a pastor who often said during his preaching that if you did not prayer an hour a day you'd be lost.

This was just one of the many things my old pastor said that would send one to hell that had not one iota of scriptural backing.

who needs scripture when you have the people you pastor bowed to the God of fear.

Re: prayer life determine salvation?

Your time alone with God says much. No prayer time no relationship. No relationship how could there be salvation if salvation is a "personal relationship" with Christ?

Re: prayer life determine salvation?

What about 'unstructured' prayer time, such as moments of communication with God throughout the day? I have always struggled with setting aside solid blocks of time, and while I really, really want to set aside a few minutes or even an hour in the morning, I just can't seem to do it. However, there are many times throughout the day when I talk to God about this or that - issues that come up, serious prayer for individuals or situations as they come to mind, or random thoughts - sometimes just 'chit chat' (if that makes any sense... :P). Many times I can even feel His presence.

I know my spiritual life is truly lacking without a solid period of time dedicated to communion with God, and I want to change that, but at the same time I don't feel out of contact.

God hears every thought so obviously it is possible. I pray this way daily. YET if this is the ONLY way we pray are we not saying we cannot deny self long enough to give God our best?

Re: prayer life determine salvation?

Sometimes we all must ask ourselves what our motivation is, in terms of anything - be that prayer, church attendance, involvement in various minitries etc.

I believe in prayer, I believe in intercession - having said that, I also see a very concerning trend of trying to earn merit by what we do...if not for the reason of gaining favour...at the very least to feel better about our efforts to get closer and live right.

Of course living right and being closer to God are very important...but the concern is that we have earned some special favour...and dare I say salvation, by the mere fact that we made an effort...or how great an effort. Is our dependance really all on Jesus or is it a combination of what He did and what we do....now I am not advocating doing nothing...just saying that th motivation for what we do has to be right...and certainly we need to be careful to not make some blanket statement about the quantity of what we do determines our final destination and then use the pulpit to lay that on everybody....I think that is potentially harmful and dangerous.

Teach prayer, teach relationship, give examples....but let people grow...

Re: prayer life determine salvation?

As if DILIGENTLY SEEKING God does not give us favor with him?

6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is , and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb. 11:6

So God rewards those who diligentley seek him.
