Republicans Need to Own the Latino Vote

Listening to Karl Rove in a Politico interview and Q and A. He talked about that the GOP needs to find a way long term to capture the Latino vote. He pointed out that they are:

* Strongly family oriented
* Strongly religious
* Highly entrepreneurial
* As a demographic they have the highest rate military enlistment than any other

Why are Latinos reluctant to vote Republican? What about their concerns are valid? What could the GOP do to bring them into the tent?

not happening this cycle. romney says he will veto the dream act. the republican platform wants to nationalize arizona's policy of having police check immigration status of residents. other than comprehensive immigration reform, latinos benefit from democratic economic policies like obamacare, tax cuts and headstart for children.

Re: Republicans Need to Own the Latino Vote

george w. got near 40 percent of latino vote, mccain got near 30 percent of vote and romney is polling at 28 percent, worse than mccain. romney is a goner. glad to see you venturing out of your fox bubble, you might learn something.

DM, try brushing up on your reading retention. I said Rove was talking about "long term" efforts to win the Latino vote.

Re: Republicans Need to Own the Latino Vote

long term or near term means republicans embracing immigration reform and economic policies that benefit the poor. not going to happen. too many racists in the party. although someone like jeb bush who has a mexican wife and is more moderate can peel numbers, democrats aren't going to give up the latino vote. democrats are already supporting them.

Re: Republicans Need to Own the Latino Vote

You're assuming Latinos are poor. The ones I know here are hard working, business owners, highly motivated people. When Romney turns the economy around and out of work Latinos have jobs, not empty promises of jobs, many Latinos will vote GOP. But I do think the GOP needs to come up with a viable plan to deal w illegal immigration on a way that does not alienate Latino voters.

And your earlier comment about Fox News. I go to many sources. I watch all three Fox, CNN, MSNBC, I read USA Today, Real Clear Politics, Daily Beast, and other internet news sources. I am very well rounded on where I get my news.
