I hereby petition the powers that be to consider changing the name of this forum by removing "apostolic," or adding "ex" or "X" as a prefix to "apostolic."

Let's face it. Many, if not most of us were introduced to the Pharisee/Legalistic brand of the Apostolic church. Many, if not most of us have been freed from a form of the bewitching that the Apostle Paul wrote against in Galatians.

Seeing as how we are the constituents that have been called out from among them, I see no purpose to continue to use the title of "apostolic." We left them. They did not leave us.

For some of you it will be hard to let go. The word "apostolic" makes you nostalgic. You become reminiscent of many precious memories. Memories of camp meeting. Brush arbor days, etc.

It is time to stop living in the past. We need to rise up and embrace the bright future ahead of us.

The legalistic church is not going to be the conduit that brings the next wave of revival. It is you and I, us, we are the conduits. The time is here...

Re: Forum Name Change

I guess it would certainly clear up any confusion, that you are not in fact entering a forum of practicing apostolic pentecostals...

Thus the confusion. SMH. Practicing...apostolic...pentecostals...by that exact name. This isn't a gathering of apostolic pentecostals. This is mostly people backslid out of church. And mostly very confused about what they believe in. No order whatsoever. A very scary place for someone IN church to be.

You are right about the bolded statement. I'll give you that. How do you know that revival isn't already happening - some of it at 'legalistic' churches?

Not even Apostolics are in agreement. There are probably some strains of Apostolic preachers and churches and organizations that would say you're backslidden and a compromiser. Labels are all relative.

Love the "backslid out of church" quote (not really). First, the word is "backslidden" not "backslid". Second, many of us who have left the traditional OP denominations have found a lot of grace, love, fruit of the Spirit, gifts of the Spirit and a world of people who aren't self righteous elitists who think that they are the only ones going to heaven. What I have discovered outside of the Apostolic movements I grew up around reflects more of what the Apostles were and did than what I experienced and observed and practiced in the movement. There are many wonderful Christians within the Ap movement. There are many outside of it too.

And the guy in your avatar? Probably wouldn't be very well received in most Ap churches...

Re: Forum Name Change

Awe shucks... This is hashed about every two months. Just because we have developed, progressed, matured - what ever, does not mean we change who we are.

Apostolic people or actually, I prefer "Pentecostals", are no different than Baptist or Lutherans in this regard. To some degree we all have maturing and even changing hermeneutics that effect how we live our faith.

So Apostolic Friends Forum is fine and reflects what we are now... Who cares about 1347?

We just need to do our best to hold fast to our anchor Christ Jesus, knowing that there is ebb and flow coming, but we are secure in Him.
