Ok, here is my first thread...
hello everyone,
Is there room to change your beliefs? I dont mean on repentance baptism in Jesus name, or infilling of the Holy Ghost.
If a preacher preached something for years and over time they gradually begin to see that it is not necessarily wrong, like TV for example. For years they are considered 'holiness' ultra-con maybe, and they decide they dont believe things are wrong anymore. They still preach against TV, but they show dvds to their young people.
To me, it is a little inconsistent. What do you think?

I think there is room to change your mind. Of course. But only if you're upfront and honest about it. If you continue to teach one thing, but do another...that's inconsistent and hypocritical.
My father persuaded a well-known UC to change his mind about wearing glasses (previously no doctors, including optometrists). I think my Dad's argument was something like "God doesn't heal us of old age."
I don't think its necessarily inconsistent to preach against TV (mainly, having one in your home) and allow limited video use. The latter is easier to control, via ratings and content reviews. With TV, its a bit more unpredictable.

Why would that be off limits? There are many who have turned away from even that doctrine. And many who have turned to it from something else. Both did it because they thought they were finding truth, or a better understanding of truth. Who's right and who's wrong?
OK, on this forum, these must be considered rhetorical questions. That's fine. Just wondering out loud, I guess. Of course, Oneness Pentecostals consider the above off limits, or they wouldn't be O.P.s! That's a given.

How is it inconsistent to change your stance on things as you study and grow?
Do you see things the same now as you did when you were ten?

I think there is always room to change your mind about things that are not "essentials". I have been moved on to make sacrifices of worship for a period of time, and then felt a release from those things. I think your walk with God is ever-changing in that sense. Now, this does not mean that I change my convictions from one day to the other, but it does mean I am open to the voice of God. I hope I am making sense. I do not participate in these kind of threads much, because relaying this kind of information is difficult in this setting for me.

Timmy,
I guess I was saying that thinking of myself. To me, those are a given...I do believe in their solid biblical backing and to me those are unchanging.

I dont believe it is inconsistent to grow and change your beliefs as you grow. I just wonder about those who do, but do not admit that they did.
I do agree also that having a television in your home is way different than monitoring dvds that your young people watch.
