Interesting Fact About Worship

I have for many years been a worshipper of God. A big part of my prayer time is praise and worship. I am deeply moved by worship music that rises up before the throne.

In my studies recently I noticed something about the way those who are the closest to YHWH worship him. The four beasts and four and twenty elders that are around the throne and (in the midst of the throne) Rev. 4:6 are the closest beings to YHWH in the Universe.

Notice what they do when they are honoring him.

4:9 When the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to him who sits on the throne, to him who lives forever and ever, 4:10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives forever and ever, and throw their crowns before the throne, saying, 4:11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, the Holy One, to receive the glory, the honor, and the power, for you created all things, and because of your desire they existed, and were created!” Rev. 4:9-11

5:8 Now when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Rev. 5:8

5:13 I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen!”

5:14 The four living creatures said, “Amen!” The *elders fell down and worshiped.* Rev. 5:14

7:11 All the angels were standing around the throne, the elders, and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before his throne, and worshiped God, 7:12 saying, “Amen! Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might, be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” Rev. 7:11

11:15 The seventh angel sounded, and great voices in heaven followed, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ. He will reign forever and ever!”

11:16 The twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God’s throne, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 11:17 saying: “We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who was*; because you have taken your great power, and reigned. Rev. 11:16-17

19:3 A second said, “Hallelujah! Her smoke goes up forever and ever.” 19:4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sits on the throne, saying, “Amen! Hallelujah!” Rev. 19:3-4

In these six scripture portions the emboldened words make us to know how those closest to the Almighty honor him.

Six times we are told THEY FALL BEFORE HIS THRONE!

It would seem perhaps this is the highest form of worship known to creation!

When I started attending Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches in the mid 70's it was not uncommon to see saints on their knees worshipping God with their faces to the ground. I used to spend chunks of time on my knees worshipping the Lord.

Time changed that over the years with arthritic knees and back. Yet of late I have been desiring to spend this kind of time in worship again. I havent been able to stay on my knees as long as I used to but I have been bowing down before the Lord at least long enough to worship him again.

Does your Church encourage this? Do you worship on your knees?

If so know that you are honoring YHWH as those closest to his throne are doing!

Re: Interesting Fact About Worship

That is an interesting concept. I have recently had some of those same thoughts. It is a fact that kneeling is a position of submission and humility. I have heard a tongues and interpretation that went forth saying that people should do more kneeling in His presence. Needless to say, it got results.

Re: Interesting Fact About Worship

Worship in the Hebrew means to lay prostrate.

Re: Interesting Fact About Worship

Thanks for pointing that out. It's good to think about things

like that and when John was in the Spirit on the Lord's day:

"..when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead."

That is what I think of when I read those scriptures of falling down before him to worship. There are several men in our church who worship and pray like this.....lying down with their faces to the floor.

Re: Interesting Fact About Worship

I don't spend as much time on my knees as I do on my face on the floor.

I've lost the habit, excellent reminder!
The best way to locate yourself in Creation, imo.

I do in my closet of prayer. Always on my knees and laying prostrate. And I always begin with praise and worship because of this verse:

"Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing." (Ps 100:2)
