Does Santorum Have A Chance?
From what I've heard, Santorum cannot win the nomination even if Gingrich drops out. Can someone explain the difference between a brokered convention and a contested convention? That is what is most likely, considering current patterns. This is the third time I said it. The republicans are in disarray. Can anyone please explain how the republicans are going to unite and who will be the candidate?

No.

Perhaps they do need a bit of unity - though I think the competition is not hurting much.
But even if nothing changes at all Republicans win. Current polls show Romney or Santorum either one ahead of Obama.

Re: Does Santorum Have A Chance?
From everything that I've read, and seen over the years, they are actually the same thing... call them brokered or contested.
The key to Newt staying in, is that if he and Santorum can peel away enough delegates, even though they don't win, neither does Romney win a simple majority either. That's really the goal at this point, and soon, it will be mathematically impossible for Romeny to do so.
This then will present about 60 days between the last votes and the convention. A lot of talking, discussions, and even wheeling and dealing will go on at that point. Quite possibly some alliances will be forged between candidates that have similiar stakes and interests.
At that point, one conservative candidate could emerge, and easily take Romney at the convention.
The majority of the Republican party will gather around no matter who the candidate is, even if they have to hold their nose, because of the disdain and dislike for President Barry. There will be a few that won't unless it's their guy, but the anti Obama factor will carry a lot toward unity.
Also, there is the possibility of an outsider coming in that wasn't even in the primary process, and that could be a hugely uniting factor.
If one of the current guys gets the nod at the convention, the key to unity will be the VP pick... that will have a huge impact.
