Ministerial Titles
This is taken from the bylaws of a Oneness Pentecostal organization.
This is on page 24 of 38 total pages and is called Section 5.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 5. Titles Used In Reference To The Minister
No minister in (Organization's Name) organization shall be referred to as Reverend. The Bible gives titles to which we may refer to one another. They are: Bishop, Elder, Evangelist, Missionary, Pastor, Teacher, and Apostle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What think ye? and why?

My dad despised the term Reverend ... he would not allow us to put on our church literature or church signage .... it was a mark of his humility.
Everyone knew him as Hermano Manny .... brother Manny ... a testimony that he considered the highest position he felt he had in the Kingdom was a son of God and brother to his brethren.
On another note .... interestingly ... a few years ago ... the NY Metro District had a tiff ... over calling pastors Bishop ... a group of ministers felt that a certain pastor should not be called Bishop because it is a term held for only District Superintendents or the General Superintendent ...
We had a heated business district business meeting when the resolution to legislate the usage of the term Bishop came up ... to make matters worst the meeting was held in the pastor in question's church ....
Thankfully ... cooler heads prevailed and the resolution was struck down.

Reminds me of a SW song...
Call no man Father
If he wears that funny collar.
Cause that means he's got a devil in his soul

Whenever the young man, Elihu, arose and began his chastisement of Job and his 3 friends, he stated:
"Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man. For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away." ( Job 32:21-22)
I think his words are still just as applicable in our day, are they not?

I am not fond of the term Reverend as it is used today.

His name is reverend.

Sometimes I have been called Reverend and I don't get cross when people do.
I understand the title comes from The Catholic church ,personally I just go by the title Brother.
I don't call myself Reverend.

Yes sir...
I would never call myself that but I wouldn't get cross with anyone who used the term.
If it was going to be an ongoing relationship then I might eventually mention my feelings when I felt an open door to do so but a passing moment is nothing I would drum up trouble about.

D4T some of my black co-workers call me Reverend ,but if I was a pastor I wouldn't want the saints calling me that though.
