Why is Gingrich soaring in the polls?

I mean - he doesnt seem like someone evangelicals would gravitate to, with all of his wives and whoring around while married to a couple of his wives, then marrying both of those he whored around with while married to those wives. He doesnt seem to share their values, but evangelicals dont seem to mind...

Then theres the TeaParty that one would think would stay so far away from Newt who is a Washington insider for decades. Lobbying - oops I mean consulting for Fannie Mae, making millions from it. Then theres the roaming around with Pelosi regarding global warming, traveling around with Rev Al Sharpton and their ilk with regard to education. He doesnt seem to share their values.

What he does do is share is their resentments.

I read this and thought it was spot on:

"...Gingrich does not share the evangelical or the Tea Party voters' values -- he shares their resentments. He resents the media ("elites"), the rich (the leadership of his own party), the Democrats (educated people), people who live in big cities (liberals), and of course, Obama, just as they do...Gingrich and his supporters do not oppose Obama, they resent the fact of his existence...He will speak for his constituents by articulating their resentments in more strident, more combative, more articulate terms than they can themselves, which is why they find him brilliant. Ron Paul's supporters find him brilliant because he reduces the complexities of the world into easy soundbites. Gingrich does that too, but he does much more -- he tells them that their nastiest, darkest, angriest, most irrational self-indulgent justifications are 100%, absolutely right. It's a negative version of a politics of self-esteem: not that you are right to feel good about yourself, but that you are right to be resentful of everyone else..."

Spot on.

I would think that Santorum would be a better fit for Evangelicals
I would think that Ron Paul would be a better fit for Tea Party ppl - although the fact that Ron thinks we need to stop going around the world bombing folk - turns them off.

I hope Gingrich gets the nomination.

His slump from last night's debate may not yet show in the polls??? I thought he looked like a deer caught in the headlights under Romney's attacks!!

I am not sure which of the front runners that I hope to get the nomination, but Romney seems the steadiest to me.

A vote for Newt is a vote for 4 more years of BHO.
I am somewhat mystified at evangelicals attraction to him.
I think it has to do with his link to the Reagan years.
How a person conducts themselves in their personal life means a lot to me as a voter.

You may think it' spot on, but the person who wrote that hasn't got a clue.

Re: Why is Gingrich soaring in the polls?

Ha, well I have to admit that "negative" is the first word that comes to mind @ Newt, but I don't see how a whore could be any worse than a pimp? And remind you guys that you are espousing viewpoints, not facts, so may as well remain civil, and just lay out your arguments with humility, they will have a much better chance?
And, of course, any vote is a vote for satan, you want some scripture for that? Please vote your conscience.

Re: Why is Gingrich soaring in the polls?

citizen, i think that article is spot on. newt is angry and that debate bumped him up in the polls. newt is also more intellectual, with more facts and details than anyone else. plus mitt is a moderate flip flopper. i think santorum is the most consistent with the least baggage, i'm surprised he is not doing better.

Re: Why is Gingrich soaring in the polls?

I have been for Gingrich since before Obama was elected. In fact, the day Obama was elected I told a friend that we need an Obama so we can get Newt someday.

I want someone with and idea of what is going on and someone who uses his mind and not just talking points to make decisions.

Re: Why is Gingrich soaring in the polls?

Newt is a..well, a Newt. But he is a very smart guy, and one can't help but compare him with Clinton in some ways at least. As it is already bandied about that the "evangelical right" will have an unusually high impact this election, I forget why but I was persuaded, I predict a complete bollux, possibly even producing an upset, Ron Paul maybe, as EvanChr rejects Newt and the O.
Personally, I'm sad to say that I think the country deserves Newt.
