The Beast in Revelation 13 & 17

Has anybody ever thought about who or what this "beast" is?

Most people I know assume it is a man. I have other ideas after studying the symbolic language in Revelation, studying history and seeing current events.

What do some of you fine folks think the Beast of Revelation is?

It has been thought that the beast is Rome.

Does Rome have the capability to "mark" every man, woman and child so that they cannot buy or sell if they do not take the mark?

It has also been thought that this was Nero.

Did Nero have the technology for the whole world to see the two witnesses rise up from the dead?

But...don't you think a system has to be put into place so he can step in and take control?

Revelation 17:8-13
