Bible Quizzing and the WPF

I used to be quite involved in quizzing when my kids where growing up. The WPF looks to be going all out in this area which is no surprise considering the veterans they have.
I was wondering if they are pulling very heavy from churches still in UPC since they don't require an affiliation to quiz in their program.

I have not heard, and am not aware on how vigorously Bible quizzing is being advocated. However, I am not very wealthy and can not make the conferences, and where we live there is only a very light WPF presence. This makes it even more difficult to know what is going on in the fellowship.

They have several former NABQT winners in the ranks as well as pastors that supported. I think that is great! Two of the girls on the Evansville senior team that finished 1st happen to be my kids cousins. I don't have any communication with them (ex-wife's family).

I see. I am glad that it is going on. However in places like Illinois and Iowa, there is not a large WPF presence, and so very much goes unknown and unseen. This is especially true if you are a tiny church like we are.

Looking back I think the concept of bible quizzing is ridiculous.

Not sure what angle you comin from on it. Had some great times and met a lot of folks in the fellowship. The Marvin Walker/Lonnie Brown years. I do know some denoms that would take exception with all the trophy ceremonials and such however. Apostolics like to recognize each other. That just be the way it is.

jfrog - looking at it I would say that comment is ridiculous.
Of course I am somewhat biased having participated in the program for over 30 years.
It is a great way to encourage young people to learn the Bible and draw closer to God.
This past year, my team and I attended both the WPF and the UPCI Senior quizzing finals.
All of my quizzers said this was their best summer ever.

bible quizzing wasn't about getting people closer to God. it was about having them memorize scriptures on the pretense that it was helping them out spiritually. I find nothing spiritual about bible quizzing. Instead of building up each other it builds pride. It's just a way for youth to say look I'm smarter and more spiritual than you. It's a competition and while I understand that friendly competition is one of the best motivators for doing something like memorizing the bible... i think it teaches youth to memorize the bible for the wrong reasons.

Is the participation equal at WPF. (Teams/quizzers). Where did you quiz/coach?
