Obama on 60 Minutes
He just said that "basic math" dictates that if you cut taxes for the wealthiest Anmericans revenues cannot go up unless you raise taxes on the middle class. Now that sounds right to someone who won't think beyond the face of this statement. But its simply a dishonest claim. He ignores the historical fact that Reagan cut taxes on the wealthy from a 70% rate on them to 38% and the tax revenues actually increased because of the growth in economic activity. He either doesn't know the history (which I doubt) or he purposefully leads Americans to believe a falsehood. But why? Why would you not take the best route to increase revenues? Why would you take the route that historically has poroven to decrease revenues and slow economic growth? I'm not ready to accuse him of wanting to destroy the American way of life, but he's narrowing the options. Right now I choose to believe ideology drives his thinking, but for someone who is supposed to be so intelligent, wouldn't you think historical facts would be a source for understanding?
