What will Bro. Haney's legacy be?
What will Bro. Kenneth Haney's legacy be. As a pastor, friend, bishop, and leader within the UPCI, what will he be most remembered for? I never knew him so I am interested in the opinion of those that were part of his flock in Stockton, Ca, went to the Bible College in Stockton and those who knew him and worked with him.

Re: What will Bro. Haney's legacy be?
I think that he will possibly have something of a mixed legacy. He was a strong leader in the UPC, pastored a church of thousands, operated a successful Bible college, opened some dialogue with other Oneness organizations, did much to revise and update the divisions at headquarters, and possibly saw one of the largest splits in the entire history of the UPCI over the issue of television during his tenure as GS.
I say all of that as fact. There is far more that will be said about him as time goes on, but we have yet to see the true impact of his leadership. Many of these thing only time will tell.

Re: What will Bro. Haney's legacy be?
I think to most people who really knew Brother Haney, his legacy will be a multitude of people who make it to Heaven because of his compassion, love, kindness and willingness to restore people. He didn't write people off when they faltered or fell - he always reminded them of God's grace and pointed them to the ultimate gift of Calvary.
Off the top of my head, I can think of several people - saints, ministers and ministers' wives who other people were ready to throw away - but he loved them and with wisdom, in time brought them back to their place in the Kingdom of God.
Yes, he was a visionary and dreamed BIG dreams - but to me, his love for people will be his legacy.

I didn't know Haney at all, but that is worthy of remembrance.

WOW!!! What great things to say about a person!
What a way to be remembered!!
Sorta like Barnabas who was willing to give a second chance to John Mark and stood up for him against the Apostle Paul who wanted to write him off. And Paul wasn't even remembering that it was Barnabas who stood up for him against the apostles and elders at Jerusalem, and who sought him out to bring him to the church at Antioch because he (Barnabas) knew that Paul's calling was to the gentiles.
It's refreshing to see positive things said about a minister/pastor/leader/politician. We (including myself) are so often negative.

Was the exodus over tv larger than the exodus over the affirmation statement in 1992 or larger than the schism that formed the AMF in the 1960's?

The many sons and daughters that came up through the Bible College or the Local Church. They are spread throughout the world. That will be his legacy!

I knew Kenneth Haney all of my life and Sweet Pea has summed his legacy up nicely. Kenneth Haney simply loved people and that was enough!

I do not know how it affected the churches here in the U.S., but I do know that there were many in other countries who left, and afterward made common cause with the WPF. Also there were missionaries who left the UPC over this issue. I know of several ministers who dropped and did not join the WPF. I do not know if there has been a record kept of the fallout from this event. But most of the 280 ministers listed used to belong to the UPC.
