Driving to Chicago
I have a meeting I need to attend at the end of this month in Chicago. It's 15 hours from where I am according to Google Maps (East Texas). It's about the same in gas as the flight is, but I wouldn't have to rent a car and perhaps I could find a cheaper hotel close to Chicago but not in it (2-3 hours out). Also, what's the weather and road conditions like in Chicago this time of year? I know we have some forum members that live in the area, so please chime in. I don't mind the drive if it's a decent savings of $$$.

Re: Driving to Chicago
There is no way I would drive a 15 hour trip. If it's over about 5 hours, I want to fly. I think I've just gotten to old to enjoy road trips. Lol!

Re: Driving to Chicago
I love road trips, and I guess I'm not that old yet The issue is that I can't get out of going and my wife is about to go into labor any second it seems like, so I don't want to wait 12 hours for a flight to Dallas, then have to drive 2 more hours after that! I want to get there, get it done, and leave again. She's due Dec. 1, and every time I suggest that she think about popping that thing out early, indicates that it's not exactly in her control

Re: Driving to Chicago
I grew up 90 miles east of Chicago. I have not lived there in 37 years, but if the weather is the same now as it was then, I remember many nice warm Indian summers during Thanksgiving. Sometimes we got snow in November, but it did not stick on the ground for very long.
Consider your driving skills if you were to be in that area should snow fall come a little early. Could you drive in the snow? Make sure you have good tread on your tires. Pack warm clothes and a blanket and some food and drink.
If I had to go, I would probably drive because at least I could leave when I wanted to. I could crawl at 25 miles per hour even just to be on my way out of town. If snowfall/ice got bad enough, O'Hare Airport would probably cancel flights out and you would be stuck in the airport or your hotel room for whatever length of time they decide.

Re: Driving to Chicago
Chicago weather should be fine if on the very chilly side. I do not anticipate any major problems. However, I live on the other side of Illinois from Chicago.
