Charismatic Catholic?

I was curious of some of the views regarding the Charismatic Catholic movement were. All I know is what I found on Wikipedia, which is not always reliable. While not everyone on this forum agrees all the time (I'm new but I've figured that out!)- I appreciate how much knowledge many seem to have regarding different faiths.

Thanks!

Re: Charismatic Catholic?

It didn't go mainstream, obviously. Go to your public library and check out Catholic Pentecostalism. It was an interesting read. I wish I had more info to offer. Memory ain't what it used to be. I do remember reading that many Catholics felt more ...Catholic, after speaking in tongues. Someone utters syllables that sound like MIRIAM, the LOGICAL conclusion is that they were prayiwmg to the mother of Jesus. o.O Vatican II was charisma friendly. Catholics still speak in tongues... on special occasions (sp), at retreats, etc.

Somewot off topic, but not completely. I know a guy who somewhere in the midst of his speaking in tongues will throw in a SANTA MARIA. That makes me uneasy to the 5th degree.

SANTA MARIA MAGGIORE, ITALY... my favorite vacation place! I would not be surprised if those words were on my lips while in an altered state...

Re: Charismatic Catholic?

Thanks Houston, I'll check that out at the library. We actually had charismatic priests come to our parish a few months ago and hold a retreat. Now I wish I had made the time to attend. It sounds like it would have been an interesting experience.
