I am going to Kentucky...
one day.
Independence, Kentucky as a matter of fact and when I a get there, I hope it's Sunday and they sing this song.
I have posted about Pastor Tommy Bates and his church, but no one on AFF at the time knew who he was or even heard of him.
His son is a national Christian recording artist whose song, "Perfect Day" was popular on Z88.3 here in O-town and featured in one of the WOW cd's.
Anyhoo, this song has helped my faith this weekend and I thought I'd share it with you.
"But through Jesus Christ I'm destined to go over. Makes no difference what your past is. That's why when I looked up [at] the Cross and they were singing, "He's Able," before the Cross of Jesus, what you were was what you were and you died what you was.
You's a liar, you died a liar. You's an adulterer, you died an adulterer. You were a thief, you died a thief. But you can take the message of the Cross in any depraved hell-hole of the world, and speak that Name Jesus, and "He is Able" shows up!
"He's Able" to deliver from drugs. "He's Able" to deliver from alcohol. "He's Able" to deliver from suicide. "He's Able" to deliver from the affects of divorce. "He's Able" to help you raise your children. "He's Able" to help you make a living for your family. "He's Able!" "He's Able!" Do you know that kind of Jesus? Do you know that kind of God?"

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: I am going to Kentucky...
Jermyn, I've heard of Tommy Bates. About 12 or 13 years ago, I saw him and I believe his son (or someone that age back then) on TBN singing for a Christmas gospel show, singing Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. Never met him, let alone been to KY, and never heard heard or watched him preach. But I do like his singing...at least I did back then. Haven't seen him since, though...

I REALLY enjoy his preaching in style and in content. I've been listening to whatever I can find by him on youtube for about a year or so now.
I had heard of his son well before I had heard of him. When I listened to, "Perfect Day", I could tell that Josh had a Pentecostal background. I can't explain how I knew, except that I knew I could.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be in Ky that soon.

Uh....did you check out the video? I doubt it very seriously. Plus on the church website saw lots of mention of the Holy Ghost but nothing on Jesus name baptism and I don't know a UPC church that does not prominently list that distinctive.

Re: I am going to Kentucky...
This church has a holiness background. Definitely not upci. They do have roots in the holiness movement. I do know that they've had apostolic singers at their church. The father of a member of their staff was a UPCI pastor. Pastor Bates preaches at a wide variety of churches. He is strong on everyone being endued with the power of The Spirit. He's also a great musician (keys) and singer. Great people.

I don't get out much but I see things have changed. Pants, cut hair, and facial hair I see in some assemblies now. I'll check out the website.
