"We Can't Cut Our Way To Prosperity" says Prez

In a speech this weekend President Obama says we can't just simply cut taxes and cut spending in order to solve this economic crisis

Really? What's the alternative? "INVESTING in middle class jobs..." You mean MORE SPENDING? Is he nuts?!?!? We've already tried $1 trillion in "stimulus" money and it hasn't helped the economy.

Tax cuts work. Trickle down economics work. Smaller less intrusive government works. There is history and history shows this to be true.

BO is giving the GOP plenty of ammo for 2012. They just need to replay portions of his speeches where he says this kind of stuff.

Yes trickle down works for the rich.

Any one with half a brain knows what the word trickle means.

" Extremely Small Amount"

This country gave the top 2% massive tax cuts, loopholes in the tax code allowing them to send money to the caiman isles just like the Mob.

How is your trickle at your place?

We are in this mess because of the foolish polices starting in 2000.

Two wars not included in Bush budgets, massive tax cuts.

Down down down went the economy from 2000.

2008 Up, up the economy though it is slow,it is still going up.

Trickle doesn't cut it for the working man or woman.

Any one with half a brain know that 17% actual unemployment is evidence that this current regime is Not working.

Why do you cherish high unemployment? Any one with half a brain knows people with jobs have more money to spend.
People with half a brain know the wealthy use their money to invest in factories, assets and enter[irse that requires workers.

Gov Palin and R Limbaugh are better at forecasting the economy than Obama and his drones.

The economy is not coming back slowly, or any other way for that matter. The economy, according to reports that have been coming out the past 2 - 3 weeks, is dead in the water, stagnant. And there really is no sign of recovery in the near future.

Re: "We Can't Cut Our Way To Prosperity" says Prez

I agree with the President on this one, to an extent.

Tax cuts alone won't help the economy.

We have businesses that are sitting on top of profits instead of investnig them. This is a huge problem. We also have huge companies that are profittable and are some how scheming out of paying taxes. This is another huge problem.

Cuts to the government workforce alone won't work. The reason why states like Alabama that have defense industries working on military projects that the military will never use is that the shock of laying off government workers and workers connected to the government would be devastating to many more local economies.

It may be that one more round of stimulus would be just enough to kick start the economy. Maybe.

Still, show me the person who thinks they know for sure what would be the ONE thing that would work and I will show you someone with a whole bunch of holes in their logic.

We are in uncharted waters here and it should be obvious to everyone that "cuts alone" is not the answer.

We need a multi-pronged approach and bi-partisan diligence to help our country-- an approach that does indeed include cuts, but not based solely on cuts.

We are not in uncharted waters. We are beeing told false claims from a bunch of marxists and the koolaid drinkers are drunk on Obama.

People like yourself that despise capitalism can't see that obama is choking growth and think Obama's excuses are valid.

Obama's minions do NOT GET IT!!

Thank you for your non-specific, invalid criticisms and your opaque solutions.

First off, businesses will not invest their profits knowing they will taxed for those investments. These company's will not invest in assets knowing the tax cuts will be dropped costing them more money, not including the risk of losing those investments with an uncertain economy.

Everyone wants security but no one wants to the risk of being the one to provide it.

We have to keep the tax cuts in place and will have to have serious budget cuts. I believe we need to pull foriegn aid for at least three years. Other countries should understand we are of no use to them if our economy goes under.

Obama was given a report a few months back outlining several social programs that are overlapping each other, throwing millions of dollars into the same problems. These need to be addressed.

The problem here is the government can not tell business what they should do when the government can't run itself. Government must show its willing to cut where needed and become economically responsible before the market will feel secure enough to invest.

We do not need another stimulus package.

While our country has been here before, and worse, what makes it uncharted waters is the safety nets in place. During the depression there were no safety nets. Now the market is not allowed to crash, if the DOW drops more than 300 pts in a day the market is forced to close. Because of this, along with stimulus spending and other safety nets, we may just be drawing out the inevitable.
