Tithing, Mandate for the New Testament Church?
Anyone for a dialog? Preferably someone with enough common sense to reply to a specific post without dancing around it?
I'm seeking a dialog with those who believe tithing is biblically mandated in the New Testament church.
Thanks.

Re: Tithing, Mandate for the New Testament Church?
But there isn't a New Testament mandate for tithing, other than the submission to church authority.
There are spiritual princinples that demonstrate why tithing is very wise.
Really it would be in the Christian's best interest to tithe.

Yes, there's isn't a mandate. Furthermore, the church must not overstep its boundaries.

And what boundaries might those be?

Commanding all congregants to tithe without any valid scripture to defend their stance.

Re: Tithing, Mandate for the New Testament Church?
Jesus rebuked the scribes and pharisees while noting that they paid tithes yet they had ignored the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith. He then told them "these (the judgment, mercy, and faith) you should have done and not left the other (paying tithes) undone. (Matt. 23:23)
He also said that except your righteousness exceed that of the pharisees you will in no way enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 5:20) While many say there is no directive/commandment in the NT for a believer to pay a set amount of tithe, the principle is still there and if anything we are encouraged to give more than 10% for he that sows sparingly will reap sparingly, but he that sows bountifully shall reap bountifully. it would be nice if the churches used it for what the church in the first century used it for.
I really dont see outlets to feed the poor or help the homless or clothe the naked. Like we should
There is oppurtunity all over this world.
And we all agree we get blessed when we give.
But not directed at you personaly but when was the last time you just stoped and instead of giving tithes to the church you gave it to homless person on the side of the road

I don't tithe solely to the preacher or the building. For example, I bought gas for a person a few days ago...I count that as tithing-giving because it was given in honor of the great high priest.
