Re: Modesty and Feminism By Steve Pixler

Here is a good quote from the article.

"So, ironically, it is modesty that best reveals femininity. Modesty celebrates femininity. It celebrates women as women, as full persons and not just as bodies to be gawked at and groped after. The feminine spirit attains its fullness in the context of covenantally faithful and self-respecting modesty. Thus, true feminism, the sort of feminism that actually loves what is womanly about women and does not seek to subjugate women as either caricatured, soulless sex objects or de-feminized pseudo-males, should promote modesty as self-actualizing for women and cut out the foolishness of encouraging young women to discover their feminine self by uncovering their female body."

WOW! I like Steve Pixler but I think there is an obsession there! He should put this in a book and sell it at the World Wide Wrestling Federation meetings. I am sure he would make a fortune and be a great guest speaker! They would not understand the words but they would like his passion!
I remember him as a great singer!

No argument with that statement on its face, but where does he take it from there.

I saw a Muslim lady in Sam's last evening, black head to toe, with only her face exposed. That is taking modesty to an extreme and "subjugates women" as non persons except in their own homes with the shades pulled.

Steve Pixler, probably goes further with modesty than I believe is necessary in the real world, but the statement above holds much truth.

For what it's worth... I have no clue whether Pixler is a UC, Con or Liberal.

The article could be used for some general thought on the question of the modern woman and the expectations we have placed on them by today's culture to represent an 18 yr old hottie their entire life. Men have no such burden placed on them, and I do think it's unfair.

If, in response to this we demand they wear burkas... well of course THAT'S unfair too!

I guess we need to drag up the videos of the Baptist woman teaching on modesty. No one seemed to mind it and even applauded her.

Steve very much appears to be a strong conservative who recently moved from the ranks of UC to merely C. After reading many of his blog entries and listening to his sermons he seems to be struggling with many views he once held after much personal meditation and finding that they simply cannot be backed up biblically, all the while proclaiming he still believe in the "standards". I enjoy reading what he writes since none of it seems to be knee-jerk and is almost always very well thought out.

RW I have enjoyed reading your posts on these threads. You've had thoughtful responses that haven't been knee-jerk reactions. Especially since I know you're not a conservative yourself.
