What is a "great man/woman of God"?
I just saw this mentioned in another thread and thought I'd ask.
What qualifies someone for the designation "great" and what would disqualify them, if anything? Is there an advantage to being considered "great"? Or is there a disadvantage? How is it determined that a man/woman is great?

In some circles, "becoming great" is their goal.

1Pe 3:4* But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

Explain please how the context for this verse answers my question.

1 Timothy 3 (King James Version)
1This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
11Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
12Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Well, context was not my main point. But, I simply was making a point, that God thinks a meek and quiet spirit are of great price, thus if you manifest a meek and quiet spirit you are great! Hope you're great!

Ok. I understand your point better now. Thank you for clarifying.

Re: What is a "great man/woman of God"?
I used to cringe when a man was introduced as "Great" so and so... I even corrected folks by saying "I suppose you mean he is a man serving a Great God?" I guess I have relaxed some, because I have not done that in a while!

Re: What is a "great man/woman of God"?
Phoenix, maybe this would qualify....
Mt 18:4* Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
or this....
Mr 10:44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
