Does Jesus require that we live out his commands?
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
John 14:21
Jesus is wanting us to both have and keep his commands. When we give ourselves to him we are to give ourselves fully. We will need time to study and assimilate his words. Other things must take second place to learning of him and doing his will.
He actually says if we keep his word he will count that we love him. Then he says because we love him he will
MANIFEST HIMSELF TO US.
Isnt that what we are looking for?
MANIFESTATIONS OF HIS LOVE?
Many today are frustrated in their walk with Jesus Christ. They know there is more to this life than what they are experiencing. All of todays teaching focuses on the fact "theres nothing you can do to have favor with God".
This is not entirely accurate. Jesus said if we keep his commands he will love us and manifest himself to us.
Its no wonder the devil wants people to think they have no part in the walk of holiness. The more people are convinced they can do nothing that would be pleasing to God the less they will know of his favor.
If men sit on a pew and embrace the idea that "Jesus did it all" and theres nothing left for them to do they miss out two ways. First they will not know the joy of a personal fellowship with Jesus. He will not manifest himself to them. Second because of disobedience to his commands they will not enter his Kingdom.
Blessed are they that
do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Rev. 22:14
Friends when Jesus said "it is finished" he was referring to his role as the Lamb who was slain from the foundation of the world. He was hanging on the cross when he said that. That particular work was now finished!
By no means was he implying there would then be nothing for his disciples to do. That would contradict a vast array of scripture.
As stated earlier top priority was given to the Apostles of Christ to go and teach his commandments to all who would be his disciple. And not just to teach but to obey. Matt 28:20
Today this is looked at as "works salvation".
Actually this salvation is
A FAITH THAT WORKS.
We are to
DO many things. We are
NOT to do many things.
We are to be
DOERS OF THE WORD and not hearers only.
The hearer who has not the faith to be a doer is a deceived man.
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word,
which is able to save your souls.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving your own selves.
James 1:21-22
So Jesus commandments are very important to the children of light. Do we even know what he expects of us? Do out Teachers spell them out to us? Do you want them to?
Many today do not want to hear about Jesus commandments.
They want Jesus to be their "friend" yet dont understand he will
NOT be their friend unless they do them.
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. John 15:14
Am I saying there are things we must
DO if we want Jesus to be with us?
Paul the Apostle said the same.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Phillipians 4:9
If we want Jesus to be with us the Apostle said we must
DO those things which we have learned, received, heard, and seen in his life.
But wait! Someone cry out didnt Jesus say he would be with us
ALWAYS even to the end of the world?
Certainly so. Now lets look at the context of where he said it.
28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Yes there it is!
It is in the very heart of the great commission. And it is expressly linked to the learning and obedience to his commandments! Awesome!
Is this "works salvation"? Or is simply salvation as taught by Jesus?
Jesus said the work of God is to believe him. That means to walk by faith in his word. We are truly saved by faith.
Faith is believing Jesus.
Now what did he say about his commandments again?
