A few days ago was Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday. I am writing this in tribute to a great man.
I was 18 in 1980, my fist vote, in the republican primaries I actually voted for George Bush Sr, but in the Election for Reagan. Shortly after I joined the US Navy and served in the submarine service.
We thought of ourselves as Ronnie's kids, and he was good to us. He thought of the people in the military as his children, he loved us, and we loved him back. He would never have put us in harm's way unless he thought it absolutely necessary.
At its zenith, the Roman empire was ruled by Marcus Traianus. Trajan, was Rome's greatest emporer. Ronald Reagan was our Trajan
He was a great man.
Rescued us from the ravages of the late 70's.
And restored our national identity and pride in being "a city on a hill".
He won the Third World War, without a shot being fired.
The liberals and democrats still hate him.
Ronald Reagen was a great President. I imagine he will be remembered as one of the greatest. There are some questionable things, but, I suppose its impossible to do the job he did without getting some dirt on your hands. Lets face it, the world changed under his leadership. America was a better place while he was president and he did what he had to do to make it better.

I am pasting here something I posted on FB that I read in an online article titled "Myths about Ronald Reagan";
Regarding myths about Ronald Reagan, Edmund Morrison addressed the old one that he was an "amiable dunce." - "Yeah, right, Clark Clifford. Ronald Reagan only performed successfully in six different careers: radio sportscaster, movie actor, trade union president, corporate spokesman, two-term governor and two-term president of the United States. Lucky for him he wasn't hampered by Jimmy Carter's intelligence!"
As a teenager very interested in politics and National security I followed the 1976 Presidential election very closely even though I was not quite old enough to vote. I became a huge RR fan and was terribly disappointed when the Republican convention nominated Gerald Ford who I was certain would lose the general election that fall to Jimmy Carter, and he did.
In 1980 I was in my senior year at JCM and after graduating that May continued to live in Jax till the end of the year. During that time I volunteered at RR's MS. State campaign headquarters. I had a great time and actually was the only one out of around 7,000 people to get Ronald Reagan's autograph about three days before he was elected President. Sadly my mother accidently threw it away not realizing what it was about a year later. Arghhh!!!!!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I think I messed up on a post in the politics section and stated that I voted for Walter Mondale.
Actually, I voted for Reagan in 84 - which was the first year I could vote, but then voted and worked for Dukakis in 88.
I was very active in my union at the time and was totally ticked about the Bush selection of Quayle to be VP.
A choice I still do not understand, to this day.

I know you will disagree but I think Sarah Palin gets the same paint thrown on her as they tried with RR about being a dunce.

I agree to some extent. The problem with Sarah is the same as with Dan Quayle. Neither one are stupid people but make enough verbal gaffes to give the liberal media an opening to exploit.
Dan Quayle was a lawyer and no dummy by any means but because he misspelled potato and was a "pretty boy" the press crucified him. They conveniently ignore liberals like Obama's verbal gaffes. I do not think Obama really thinks there are 57 states yet he said that. If a republican had the press would have never let him live it down.
I like Sarah but do wish she had remained Governor of my home state of Alaska so she would have had more than a two year resume at a high level of government. I think she was doing a great job and after four years would have proven herself even more. It also would have given her time to have immersed herself in getting up to speed on the geopolitics of the world, etc.
