Reducing consumption without reducing use is a costly delusion. If undeveloped countries consumed at the same rate as the US, four complete planets the size of the Earth would be required. People who think that they have a right to such a life are quite mistaken.

Americans eat 200 billion more calories per day than necessary -- enough to feed 80 million people.

While millions of people around the world starve to death, Americans spend $30 billion a year on diet programs. One-third of the U.S. population is significantly overweight.

Start off with energy. We produce a very large percentage of the worlds industrial goods and food which requires energy.

We are 1/4th of the world's GDP. Of course much of the energy goes into nitrogen for crop fertilizer.

It is my understanding Inda and China can now create enough crops to feed all their hungry. That consumes energy.

Coadie, weve had it good for a very long time, which is a blessing.
But we have become gluttonous and ungrateful.
Its showing up in all kinds of ways - especially in our health. And then look at our fat little offspring.
This is not right and as Christians lets not be caught up in the consumption fever that's so prevalent in the nation.

We have to be more moderate in our consumption and we just cant keep defenging our greedy little appetites.

All of these things will change drastically when the American economy collapses and the dollar goes defunct. When our economy is gone... no one can afford electricity and people are starving you can know that all of this has been remedied.

LOL! I was thinking similarly.

Citizen, the future is yours. Things are about to change. I can't say how much, but I think we are at least going to see the late 70's inflation and interest rates all over again. Maybe even worse. We are already bankrupt, we just haven't admitted it yet.

Please tell us you are underweight, are living in an earth friendly tent, rub two sticks together to get a little heat now and then, only sip on water, never, ever go near a vehicle of any sort....etc., etc., etc..

Do you know that many Americans are overweight because we don't have ENOUGH money to spend on decent food? Very often, the lower the socioeconomic status, the higher the weight because foods like mac and cheese, which isn't very nutritious, is very cheap. Since many people are malnourished or undernourished, they eat more as their bodies crave food (nutrition) and they again eat the wrong kind of cheap calories and gain weight.
